OGDEN, UT—MAY 24, 2020—In the first stake race of the day at Weber Downs, Wilmas Dynasty broke on top and led the field to the wire in the $25,633 Jake Kapp Maiden Frolic (not black-type), sponsored by Kapp Companies.

The 3-year-old Utah-bred filly was the second fastest qualifier from four trials to the 350-yard event, which was restricted to horses aged three and up who were maidens as of January 1, 2020.

In the final, Wilmas Dynasty and jockey Jesus Valenzuela posted a final time of 18.063 and earned a 92 speed index. The daughter of Jr Dynasty Mountain is trained by Riley Moosman.

Owner and breeder Mike Clark was optimistic after the filly loaded. “She was good in the gate, and then ran a great race. We’re happy with her, and happy she shows the same talent as the rest of the family.” Clark has bred half-siblings to Wilmas Dynasty out of her dam, Watch Wilma Burn, by Dash to Chivato, including MC Addies Feature, the runner up in the 2016 South Valley Futurity at Laurel Brown.

As a 2-year-old, Wilmas Dynasty ran three times and hit the board twice, including a second-place finish in the Hadley/Giles Futurity at Weber last spring. She is now two for two as a 3-year-old.

Harems Runaway and jockey Michael Ybarra chased the leader throughout the race, finishing just a neck behind the winner to earn a 91 speed index.

Harems Runaway is owned and bred in Utah by George and Judy Weldon, by Harems Last Dash and out of the Hawkinson mare Shes Fabulous. The 3-year-old gelding was third in his trial and has never missed the board in seven lifetime starts.

Jay Pitcher trains Harems Runaway as well as third-place finisher Jesslikeasweetdream. Jesslikeasweetdream was ridden by Jose Guzman for owner Larry Stewart. The 3-year-old filly made her career debut in the trials for the Jake Kapp earlier this month and was third in the same trial as Wilmas Dynasty.

Jesslikeasweetdream was bred in Texas by Julianna Holt, by Apollitical Jess and out of the Mr Jess Perry mare A Dash of Sweet Heat; A Dash of Sweet Heat is out of multiple champion and graded stakes winner Corona Chick.

Video replays of each race are available on the Utah Quarter Horse Association Racing YouTube channel.
