FREDERICKSBURG, TX—AUGUST 8, 2020—Coming off a troubled fifth-place effort in the G.C.F.A. Firecracker Futurity in her last start, Ojd Chavela J dominated the last of five trials Saturday for the $147,500 Gillespie County Fair Futurity when she rolled a 3-˝ length win.

Ridden by jockey Luis Vivanco, Ojd Chavela J completed the 350 yards in :17.792 seconds, recording a 94 speed index into a 12 mph headwind for trainer Adrian Huitron.

Racing for owner Jorge Navarro, the daughter of leading sire Valiant Hero, picked up her second win in three career starts. The chestnut filly broke her maiden in her career debut when she qualified to the $91,400 G.C.F.A. Firecracker Futurity July 5, however she ducked in halfway down the track in the final and had to settle for the $5,027 fifth-place payday.

Oscar and Esther Diaz bred Ojd Chavela J in Idaho from the Jesse James Jr mare One Prompt JJ.

Winless in two starts the Idaho-bred daughter of champion Foose has the same trainer, jockey, owner and breeder as the fastest qualifier. She is out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Bugs Wagon.

Capo de Capi was the only other sire to get multiple qualifiers, siring 4th fastest Blue Capo and 5th fastest Buford T.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Gillespie County Fairground on Sunday, August 23rd to vie for the $51,660 winners' share of the purse.
