Three Blue Coronas Dominates Gillespie County Fair Derby Trials

FREDERICKSBURG, TX—AUGUST 9, 2020—Grade 3-placed Three Blue Coronas was an easy gate-to-wire winner Sunday to set the fastest qualifying time for the $76,800 Gillespie County Fair Derby.

Under jockey Victor Urieta, Jr., Three Blue Coronas defeated stablemate Ima Tempting Girl by 1-˝ lengths while completing the 350 yards in :17.433 seconds, equaling a 105 speed index into a 13 mph headwind.

Trainer Alonso Neri saddled the stakes-placed son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue for owner Jordyn Prock. The $14,500 2018 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate has compiled a (9) 5-0-1 record and banked more than $45,000.

Nancy McCoy bred Three Blue Coronas in Louisiana from the Strawfly Special mare Corona Three. The bay gelding was third in the Speedhorse Futurity(G3) and a finalist in the Evangeline Downs Futurity(G3) at 2.

The aforementioned Ima Tempting Girl held on for the second fastest clocking of :17.681 seconds, a 97 speed index. Also trained by Neri, the daughter of champion and champion sire Tempting Dash races for owner Juan Julian Sandoval.

Nestor Duran had the riding call aboard the Texas bred filly from the Mr Jess Perry mare Ima Perry Girl. Bred by Sylvia Shaw & E. H. Pitman Jr., Ima Tempting Girl has won or placed in eight of nine starts and earned $26,380. The Gillespie County Fair Derby will be her first stakes appearance.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from today's three trial races will return to the Gillespie County Fairground on Sunday, August 23rd to vie for the $26,880 winner's share of the purse.
