AJAX, ONT—OCTOBER 12, 2020—Jess Carolinas Award defeated Rowdy And Bodacious in the first of two trials Monday at Ajax Downs to set the fastest qualifying time for the Ontario Sires Stakes Derby.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Ajax Downs on Monday, October 26th to vie for the winner's share of a $50,000-added (CAN) purse going 350 yards.
Ridden by jockey Ramiro Castillo, Jess Carolinas Award completed the 350 yards in :18.108 seconds, with a 22 mph tailwind, to set the top qualifying mark.
Trainer Tom Dunlap saddled the son of world champion sire Winners Award to his third win in 11 starts for owner-breeder Rick Crispi. A finalist in the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity last season, Jess Carolinas Award has compiled a (11) 3-4-0 record and earned $28,910.
The sorrel gelding, from the Pretty Boy Perry mare Shake Pretty Baby, has won three of eight starts and earned $23,007. He was third in the Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity last season.
