Cerveza Corona Fastest Qualifier to Century Maiden Express

EDMONTON, AB – MAY 21, 2021 - After two trials on the Friday evening card at Century Mile, Cerveza Corona posted the fastest qualifying time of 18.183 to the 350-yard Century Maiden Express.

The $15,0000-est. final will be held on June 4th.

Cerveza Corona ($5.00) won the first trial and first race of the night by nearly two lengths and earned a 78 speed index as the post time favorite.

Ricardo Moreno rode Cerveza Corona for trainer William Leech and owner Charles Stojan. The 3-year-old colt was bred in California by Oscar Andrade Jr. and Steve Burns, DVM, by Favorite Cartel and out of Corona Mas Fina, by Corona Cartel.

The trial was Cerveza Corona’s third career start. He was third in the Evergreen Park John Deere Juvenile Challenge in August and competed in the Canada Cup Quarter Horse Futurity (RG3) at Century Mile in October.

The second and third fastest qualifiers finished first and second in the second trial, led by Bright Foo Fighter and his time of 18.361. Corrine Andros rode the Gone to the Mountain colt to victory by a nose over Hortons Real Deal and Ricardo Moreno. William Leech trains the 3-year-old for the Gonetothebrightside Syndicate.

Bright Foo Fighter is an Alberta-bred colt out of Dj Bright Sweetheart, by Bright Plain. He was bred by Jack R. and Deborah Williams.

Bright Foo Fighter finished behind Cerveza Corona in the regional Juvenile Challenge last year at Grand Prairie before qualifying to the Alberta Bred Futurity at Century Mile in September.

Bright Foo Fighter’s stablemate Hortons Real Deal could not quite catch the winner but posted a time of 18.396 as the runner-up that was the third fastest time overall.

Charles Stojan bred and owns the Alberta-bred son of Hortons Special Issue. He is out of the FDD Dynasty mare Winkin Dynasty.

Hortons Real Deal has three career starts, all at Century Mile, including a maiden effort and a start in a trial for the Alberta-bred Futurity.
