Double Cruise Wins Alberta Stallion Stakes Maturity In Season Debut

EDMONTON, ALB—JULY 4, 2021—Multiple stakes winner Double Cruise rolled to a ¾-length win over Ima Runnin First is his 2021 season debut Sunday, the $11,463(US) Alberta Stallion Stakes Maturity (not black type) at Century Mile Racetrack.

Bumped at the start under jockey Martin Ortiz, Double Cruise completed the 330 yards in :17.108 seconds, equaling an 87 speed index into a 15 mph crosswind. It was third consecutive win for the son of Bd Cruisier, who ended last season by winning the Canada Cup Derby at Century Mile.

Owned-trained and bred by Tom Kenway, Double Cruiser has compiled a (12) 5-3-1 record and today's $5,973(US) winners' purse boosted his bankroll to $58,983. Out of the Eye Take Time mare Eye Cruise, he also won the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity at 2.

Also a stakes winner, Ima Runnin First drifted in under jockey Adrian Gonzalez but flew late to pick up $2,930(US) for second. Owned-trained and bred by Wesley T. Oulton, the son of leading Canadian sire First Timber has earned $46,280. He is bred from the Streakin La Jolla mare Ima Jess A Streaker.

Suits, another Oulton owned-bred and trained son of First Timber, also bumped at the start but managed to finish a neck off his stablemate to earn $1,352(US) for third. Oulton named jockey J.B. Botello to ride the Grade 3-placed gelding out of Burners Beauty by El Rey Burner. Suits has earned $36,838.

Atomic Blondie, Streaken Timber, Rj Fly Bye and Quarter Swan completed the field.
