GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 2, 2021—The royally bred Inspyre dueled throughout, catching Smoky Ice at the wire by a neck to take home the winner's share of the $414,995 Dash For Cash Futurity(G2) Saturday night at Lone Star Park.
Under jockey Rodrigo Vallejo, Inspyre completed the 400 yards in :19.665 seconds, equaling a 96 speed index on a sloppy (sealed) racetrack with a 2 mph crosswind. It was the second career win for the half-brother to last year's AQHA Racing World Champion Whistle Stop Cafe.
Trainer M. Heath Taylor conditions the Texas homebred son of leading sire Corona Cartel for AQHA Champion Breeder and owner Bobby D. Cox.
Inspyre entered the race as the third-fastest qualifier after finishing a head off Lethal Jet in the September 17th time trials.
Tenth fastest qualifier Smoky Ice also bounced off a second-place trial effort to capture second-place in the rich final for owners La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC. Jude and Regina Robicheaux bred the son of leading third-crop sire Apollitical Blood in Louisiana from the Sir Runway Dash mare Tf Dashin Ms Perry.
Trainer Rolando Almanza named jockey Francisco Calderon to ride the $30,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate. The $82,999 Dash For Cash payday boosted Smokey Ice's earnings total to $93,059.
