James Flores To Rides 2nd Win Of The Night Aboard A Legacy Of Tales In Valley Junction Futurity (G3)

ALTOONA, IA–SEPTEMBER 30, 2022–Multiple AQHA champion jockey James Flores rides to his second stakes victory of the night with A Legacy Of Tales in the $224,720 Valley Junction Futurity (G3) at Prairie Meadows.

Trainer Stacy Charette-Hill also had a big night after saddling the top two finishers in three of the four quarter horse stakes races on the card for Friday night, including the Valley Junction Juvenile, Valley Junction Derby and now the Valley Junction Futurity with A Legacy Of Tales and Hes Underway. 

Flores and A Legacy Of Tales were nearly 4-1 odds at the post and drew the three hole to start. After breaking sixth from the gate, the duo pulled up to third at the stretch and crossed the finish line a half-length ahead of fastest qualifier Hes Underway. 

A Legacy Of Tales clocked a 97 speed index in :17.564 seconds on the 350-yard track. The victory paid $11.40 to win on a $2.00 wager. Hes Underway, ridden by Erik Esqueda finished second a nose over This The Marfa Light with Jose Beltran in the irons.

This is the first stakes win for A Legacy Of Tales, who placed third in the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity in July. The son of Wagon Tales has lit the board six out of seven starts with 3 wins and now has $133,790 in the bank after earning the $101,124 winner’s share of the Futurity purse.

Owned and bred by Donald Friesen of Oklahoma, A Legacy Of Tales is out of the new track record setter and multiple stakes winner Legacy A Streakin, who's sire is Streakin La Jolla.

Runner up Hes Underway was fastest qualifier in the trials and has earned $62,205 for owner/breeder Bob Moore Farms, LLC of Oklahoma. His dam is the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pyc First Prize Fany, who is out of a half-sister to all-time leading sire First Down Dash.

Saddled by Manuel Campos third place finisher This The Marfa Light just broke his maiden in July and has earned $37,177.  Bred by Stacy Charette-Hill and Vicki Banks of Oklahoma the son of The Marfa Lights sold for $10,000 to his owner Jose Murguia Moreno in last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
