Fastest Qualifier From Trials Racing The Rails Returns For Victory In $129,020 Jim Bader Futurity

ALTOONA, IA–OCTOBER 1, 2022–Fastest qualifier Racing The Rails returns to the $129,020 Jim Bader Futurity finals at Prairie Meadows on Saturday ready to run. Guided by Cody Smith, the daughter of Freighttrain B won the 350-yard stakes by 1/2-length over Lil Racy Blu.

Even though she was fastest qualifier, Racing The Rails wasn’t favored to win. But, the two-year-old filly took over and held clear for a :17.856 second victory with an 88 speed index, which paid $11.20 to win. 

Racing The Rails broke her maiden in June and the Jim Bader Futurity is her first stakes win. The $60,639 winner’s share ups her earnings to $77,342. Trainer Tony Dean Jones owns the two-year-old filly in partnership with Ricky Neff. Bred by Robert S. Brown, Racing The Rails is out of the One Famous Eagle mare One Famous Hawkeye.

Stormy Smith rode both Racing The Rails and Lil Racy Blu in the trials, but opted to mount Lil Racy Blu, who placed second in the finals. The son of Racy Casanova has four wins and one second from 5 starts with $81,681 in the bank, including a victory in the Iowa Stallion Futurity in August.

Tony Dean Jones also saddled Lil Racy Blue for owner Richard Tobin. The two-year-old filly bred by Jason Kindle is out of Lil Blue Runaway by Streak And Dash.

Post-time favorite Dashin Davey Crocket, ridden by Jose Beltran placed third in the Jim Bader Futurity. The son of Lil Kool Wagon has lit the board in every out from 5 starts with two wins, including the Hawkeye Futurity in July. Trained by Manuel Campos, the gelding has earned $62,980 for owner James Leeper. 

Dashin Davey Crocket was bred by David Spieker and is out of Easy Sailin Kiss by Dashin Is Easy.

Completing the order of finish is Ec Wagon, Duke Of Cartel, Tuffazznailz, Ts Attack The End and Joda Tempting Jet. Jesstrong Corona and Perrysfirstmoonflash were scratched by their trainers.
