Trickn Wagon Wins South Dakota Bred Futurity, Bhr Light My Spark Derby

FORT PIERRE, ND—OCTOBER 5, 2022–The South Dakota Bred Futurity and Derby were contested Saturday October 1 and Sunday October 2 at Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre.

South Dakota Bred Futurity

Making his first start since an off-the-board finish in the 1889 Futurity at Canterbury Park, Trickn Wagon took an early lead under jockey Eric Snodgrass then held of Wb Dashing Bart by a neck to win the $15,000 South Dakota Bred Futurity on Saturday.

The son of Fire Breathing Wagon completed the 250 yard course in :13.713 seconds, equaling an 85 speed index into a 12 mph crosswind. It was the third win five starts for the gelding trained-owned and bred by Bill J. Geditz.

Geditz bred the brown gelding from the Favorite Trick (TB) mare Trickarita. The $7,500 winner's purse doubled Trickn Wagon's earnings total to $15,280.

Post time favorite Wb Dashing Brat just missed under jockey Timothy Tarasenco. Robert Don Johnson trains the Mr Apollitical Dash gelding for owner-breeder Valerie Shoun. Out of the Holland Ease mare Bratina, Wb Dashing Brat picked up $3,750 for his effort.

Kikntires Nlitnfires finished another neck back in the blanket-finish to earn $2,250 for third. Also from the Johnson stable, the daughter of multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel is a homebred for Webb Ranch LLC. Jockey Larren Delorme had the riding call on the sorrel filly out of Racin Thru Fire by Walk Thru Fire.

Timeto Be Fast completed the four-horse field.

South Dakota Bred Derby

Bhr Light My Spark drove to a neck win over Hasta Be Relentless in the $15,000 South Dakota Bred Derby on Sunday at Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre.

Jockey Timothy Tarasenco guided the First Down Mr Jess 2-year-old to a :13.785 clocking, into a 14 mph headwind, for the 250 yards. It was the second career win in 13 starts for the Broken Heart Ranch owned-and-bred gelding.

Robert Don Johnson saddled the gelding out of Bhr Guys Flash Me by Cs Flashlight. The $7,500 winner's purse boosted his earnings total to $21,106.

Hasta Be Relentless showed early speed under jockey Brian Beetem but faded to second earning $3,750 for his effort. The multiple stakes-placed son of leading sire Hes Relentless was third in the South Dakota Bred Derby last year.

Also from the Johnson stable Hasta Be Relentless races for owner Dakota Five.  Bob and Gary Johnson bred the brown colt from the FDD Dynasty mare Diva Dynasty. He has earned $11,257 from 12 starts.

Welcometathadarkside had not final kick under jockey Larren Delorme to finish half-a-length back in third. Bill Geditz trains the Darkelly colt for owner Thomas Anderberg. Kailee Webb bred Welcometathadarkside from the Dash Ta Fame mare Famous Wildone. He earned $2,250 for the effort.

Deal Me A Jess finished fourth in the four-horse field.
