Pedigree Analysis Regard With Respect: This Pedigree Demands Some Respect

By Andrea Caudill

Q-RACING JOURNAL—MARCH 21, 2015—He didn’t get no respect. And that was a bad idea.

Nancy Powell’s Regard With Respect powered home in the $827,000 Remington Park Futurity (RG2), a neck the best. (Also, past Pedigree Analysis subjects AJs High won the Remington Park Derby (RG3) and Rock You won the Bob Moore Memorial Stakes (G2).

Regard With Respect won his trial by a length, but jockey Jesus Salazar took off to ride the race’s fastest qualifier, A Tres Of Paint. And despite Regard With Respect's driving trial finish (his only other start), bettors dismissed him at 17-1 odds.

At race’s end, Regard With Respect had earned some respect – and a check worth $330,800 – and he carries a pedigree that ought to, as well.

The gray was bred by Darrell and Nancy Powell of Kinta, Oklahoma, and is owned by Nancy. He is by Chicks Regard and out of the Special Definition mare Dynamite Friends.

Chicks Regard is a 16-year-old son of Chicks Beduino out of the First Down Dash mare First Regard, and he stands at Double LL Farm at Bosque, New Mexico. His sire, of course, is the Hall of Fame runner and sire. His dam is the unraced full sister to champion First Regards. A stakes winner on the track, Chicks Regard has sired the earners of more than $5.2 million, including the likes of You N How Many More ($401,928), A Streak Regard ($381,190), Ms Regard ($328,461), Uncovered Regard ($246,489), Snow Regard ($241,205), Mr Regard ($229,688) and A Streak Again ($221,009), as well as halter world champion Brtsendingmyregards.

Regard With Respect’s dam, Dynamite Friends, has indeed proven herself to be an explosive producer. She was bred in Oklahoma by Jean Swan and Josh Simpson, and won or placed in four of 10 career starts. She was a finalist in the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Futurity (RG3) and earned $13,556.

The Powells picked her up for $2,900 at the 2006 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale, and to date she has a 100 percent hit rate on producing runners – 7-for-7 with three stakes winners and one stakes-placed runner.

Among them are her 2007 foal, Better Bet On Chico (by Dashin Chico, $120,183), her 2009 foal Corona With Friends (by The Corona, $67,343) and her 2011 foal Heavens Assured (by Streak And Dash, $35,542).

“They are all nice colts, very easy to handle and we’re proud of them,” Nancy Powell said after the race.

Dynamite Friends is by Special Definition, a Joe Kirk Fulton-bred stallion by Special Effort out of champion and millionaire Heavenly. The unraced stallion has sired 17 race starters, of which eight have returned as winners. Her dam, Dynamite Judgement, is by the Dash For Cash stallion Better Judgement.

Dynamite Friends is inbred four times to Easy Jet. The mare is a sister to stakes-placed runner Dashing Departure ($34,707). This mare family has produced the likes of stakes winner Elusive Saint ($38,617), Rockets Special Dash ($30,612), Handy Ruler ($35,199) and stakes-placed runner Elegant Ease ($32,491).

Note that, according to the Q-Racing Journal’s Successful Crosses, Chicks Regard’s best cross has come on Streakin Six mares. Streakin Six happens to be a grandson of Easy Jet, and the cross has been good for more than a million dollars.

And that’s something worth quite a bit of respect.
