Q-RACING JOURNAL—AUGUST 3, 2015—Queen Catherine had to fight several battles to earn her first career stakes win in Saturday’s $71,730 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge (G3).

First, she had to battle to a runner-up finish in her July 17 trial to the race. Then, as she was tied for the 10th fastest time, she had to win a shake to earn her spot in the gate.

But after two consecutive wins just to make it in, she left no doubt in the final, sailing home while sporting a pink breast cancer awareness ribbon painted on her side, and pink silks worn in honor of Pink Day at the track. The victory boosted her career earnings to $42,768 for owner Hay Racing of Seminole, Oklahoma. The filly earned a berth in this year's $150,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2), which will be run at Lone Star Park in the fall.

Queen Catherine was bred by Gary Vaughan of Coalgate, Oklahoma. She is by Freighttrain B and out of the Agouti mare Ms Casholene.
