Fiesty Icon, winner of the Ontario Sires Stakes Derby at Ajax Downs, was the first stakes winner for his sire Sugarman Perry.

Sugarman Perry Gets First Stakes Winner

ENNISKILLEN, ONT—OCTOBER 4, 2015—Sugarman Perry, a son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry, sired his first stakes winner last week when Feisty Icon won the $58,041 Ontario Sires Stakes Derby (R).

Racing for Richard Kennedy, Fiesty Icon won the 330-yard stakes at Ajax Downs. It is his sixth win in 11 career starts, and boosts his career earnings to $74,643. In August, Fiesty Icon was second behind Embrace Extravagence in the $82,302 Picov Derby. Picov Cattle Co. bred the horse from the Special Effort mare Fiesty Spirit.

Bob and Jerry Gaston of Seguin, Texas bred Sugraman Perry. The 13-year-old son Mr Jess Perry is out of the First Down Dash mare Down Town Miss. He won or placed in 10 of 18 starts during his racing career. He was a finalist in the Remington Park Juvenile Invitational as a 2-year-old.

Owned by Christine Tavares of Enniskillen, Ontario, Sugarman Perry has sired 29 winners from 49 starters, with a average earnings per starter almost $19,500. He is also the sire of stakes-placed runners Sugar Boy Barry ($53,037) and Sugar Bar ($79,347).
