OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 20, 2016—2015 AQHA Racing Champion Aged Stallion Open Me A Corona will return to the racetrack for the 2016 season. The Louisiana-bred son of Coronas Leaving You picked up the championship honors on Wednesday night during a champion's ceremony at Heritage Place in Oklahoma City.

Co-owner Dr. Tommy Hays indicated a decision had been made to return the multiple stakes winner to racetrack in the 2016.

"This horse is sound and it's hard to not have him at home," Hays said while accepting the championship honor on behalf of himself and co-owner Charles Forbes, Jr. Hays praised the racing and breeding program in Louisiana but said Open Me A Corona could race outside the Bayou state for the first time in the coming year.

Open Me Corona just completed a perfect 6-for-6 championship season where he won six stakes races and earned $222,000. The RG1 five-year-old has won 12 of 14 career starts and earned $747,298.

Open Me A Corona had been slated to stand at Robicheaux Ranch Inc. near Breaux Bridge, Louisiana this season.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to watch Open Me A Corona race another season and respect Dr. Hays and Mr. Forbes decision to return the newly crowned champion to the racetrack,” Ryan Robicheaux said Wednesday night.
