Q-RACING JOURNAL—MAY 3, 2016—Good Job Honey, indeed.

The 3-year-old filly by that name closed to take the $160,900 West Texas Derby (G3), earning a $75,623 paycheck for her connections.

Those connections include her breeder, Johnny T.L. Jones’ J Bar 7 Ranch LLC, and co-owner Shirley Grisham. Jones is famed for many things, not the least being the breeder and co-owner of the sport’s all-time leading runner, Ochoa ($2,781,365). Grisham owns and races the siblings, stakes-winner RG Miracle ($189,662) and stakes-qualifier KG Miracle; Wrangler Racing Ace Jennifer Hancock profiled her husband and trainer Ken Grisham in a recent Aces Blog .

Good Job Honey has now won six of nine starts and earned $182,388, including winning the 2015 Four Corners Futurity (G3).

The brown mare is by Freighttrain B and out of the Shazoom mare Ally Kazaam.

Freighttrain B is an 8-year-old son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon out of the good mare Dianetogetcha, whom I profiled in 2014 after her daughter Coronas Concierge won the NCQHRA Futurity. Freighttrain B, her first foal, won or placed in 12 of 16 starts and earned $421,761.

Now owned by Bobby Cox, the stallion has from two crops sired the earners of more than $1.6 million. They include the likes of Grade 1 winner BV Midnite Express ($766,923) and stakes winner Bye Byefreighttrain ($169,469). He stands at Belle Mere Farm at Norman, Oklahoma.

Ally Kazaam is a 12-year-old daughter of Shazoom out of the Chicks Beduino mare Ally Bye Bye, bred by Barley & Sharp Farm. Unable to break her maiden in seven starts, she became a broodmare.
