SALLISAW, OK–SEPTEMBER 15, 2016—After serious consideration to send the All American Futurity(G1) winner to California to attempt via for a qualification into the Champion of Champions(G1), the Pevehouse's and trainer Clint Crawford have come to the decision to retire the 3-year-old colt from racing with an undefeated 8-for-8 career record.

Jess Good Candy, the son of champion Good Reason SA, recently was victorious in his trial for the All American Derby(G1) in Ruidoso Downs to give the colt his eighth consecutive victory. The effort, although easily winning in showery conditions, failed to qualify him into the field of the 2016 All American Derby(G1).

Earlier in the summer, under regular rider Ivan Carnero, Jess Goo Candy won the Grade 1 $1 million Ruidoso Derby. The multi-millionaire kicked off his 2016 campaign at Remington Park with an impressive win in the $70,000 Mr Master Bug Stakes.

Trainer Clint Crawford, who made Stallionesearch.com aware of the retirement, expressed his confidence that "Team Jess Good Candy" was making the right decision to preserve the colt for what is expected to be a highly successful stud career.

"We had the intention and still have hope that he will be voted as the champion 3-year-old of 2016," said Crawford. "I had the opportunity to meet with both Rozella and Cheryl Pevehouse to discuss his options for the rest of the year, and we decided that the risk was just too great. He's already scheduled to arrive at Lazy E Ranch to begin his stud career after making over $2 million in his career, and as much as we would like to have seen him go on to have an chance at being named AQHA World Champion, we felt is was best to preserve him for his stud career."

The colt retires with a perfect, undefeated record with earnings of $2,014,703. Currently #6 on the All-Time Leading Money earners list, Jess Good Candy is one of only three stallions in 33 years to win the All American Futurity at two, then return to Ruidoso and win a Grade 1 derby. He is also the only horse among the industry's top 100 all-time money earners remains undefeated.

His sire, Good Reason SA won or placed in nine races and earned $1,446,727. Named the AQHA Racing Champion Aged Horse and Aged Stallion of 2011, the son of former Thoroughbred Horse of the Year Favorite Trick won the Los Alamitos Two Million(1), Champion of Champions(G1), Golden State Derby(G1) and Los Alamitos Winter Championship(G1).
