Grade 2 Winner This Is An Eagle Retired To Granada Farms

WHEELOCK, TX—DECEMBER 4, 2018—Grade 2 winner and G1-placed This Is An Eagle SI 103 has been retired and will stand the upcoming breeding season at Granada Farms near Wheelock, Texas for an advertised fee of $1,000.

Bred by Pete Scarmardo, This Is An Eagle topped the 2016 TQHA Yearling Sale for $100,000 when he was purchased by owner Mary Lynn Thompson. Trained by Leon Bard, the 3-year-old son of leading sire One Famous Eagle captured the 2017 Grade 2 $483,600 Sam Houston Futurity in his second career start.

He went undefeated through August of his 2-year-old year, winning both his trials of the Grade 1 Rainbow and Grade 1 All American Futurities. He was third in the $873,816 Texas Classic Futurity(G1) at Lone Star Park and completed his freshman campaign as a finalist in the $309,600 Evangeline Downs Futurity.

In four starts at 3, This Is An Eagle won his trial and qualified for the Grade 3 $191,900 Sam Houston Derby. In two years at the track the sorrel colt won or placed in eight of 12 career starts and earned $316,360.

His sire, champion One Famous Eagle SI 101 ($1,387,453), has sired 61 stakes winners, 5 champions and 3 All American Futurity(G1) winners and earners of nearly $27 million in only seven crops to race. His top performers include AQHA Racing World Champion One Dashing Eagle SI 98 (at 2, $2,079,065, All American Futurity-G1, etc.), three-time champion Imperial Eagle SI 106 (to 4, 2018, $1,868,151, All American Futurity-G1, etc.), champion Bodacious Eagle SI 104 (to 6, 2018, $997,536, Texas Classic Derby-G1, etc.), champion Hes Relentless SI 108 ($616,380, Hobbs America Derby-G3, etc.), etc.

This Is An Eagle's dam is the First Down Dash mare Lady Lilia SI 97, a sister to stakes-placed Tenays Kid SI 92 and half-sister to G3 winner and champion sire Desirio SI 116 ($256,786).
