Burns Ranch Adds Mpshinning and Mental Error To Stallion Roster

MENIFEE, CA—JANUARY 19, 2022—Burns Ranch in Menifee, California, announced today the addition of multiple graded stakes winner's Mpshinning SI 107 and Mental Error SI 103 to its stallion roster for 2022.

MPSHINNING

Mpshinning, a son of All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Piloto, is a multiple restricted Grade 1 winner of $850,025. He won the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1), Miss Polly Classic(RG2), Mid City Stakes(G3), Gillespie County Fair Futurity, Sam's Town Stakes and the King William Stakes.

Mpshinning was also second in the Dash for Cash Futurity(G2), Dash For Cash Derby(G2), Louisiana Champions Day QH Classic (RG2),Louisiana Classic(RG2), Miss Polly Classic S.(RG2), LQHBA Breeders Derby(RG3) and third in the Vals Fortune Teddy Abrams Memorial S.,

He was also a finalist in the Leo Stakes(G1), Louisiana Classic S.(RG2)-twice, Eastex Stakes(G2), Sam Houston Stakes and Louisiana Champions Day QH Derby(RG3).

Bred in Louisiana by Jon and Donna McPherson, Mpshinning was purchased by Larry Boudreaux for $27,000 in the 2017 LQHBA Yearling Sale. Boudreaux campaigned the bay horse throughout a race career where he won or placed in 19 of 26 career starts.

Mpshinning is out of the unraced First To Shine mare Shinningperrydash, dam of 4 ROM winners, from 4 starters, including restricted Grade.1 winner Mpshinning SI 107 (see above), Laddie Futurity(RG2) finalist Piloto Shiner SI 102 ($68,673), Shinning Runaway SI 101 (winner at 3, 2021, $26,893) and Coronashinningyou SI 89 (2 wins at 2, $20,940).

The second dam is the stakes-placed Mr Jess Perry mare Perrys Spash N Dash SI 91 ($10,676), dam of 4 winners including stakes-placed Tenacious SI 91 ($27,602), Mascoutah SI 89 ($24,172), and granddam of G3-placed El Campecino SI 106 ($98,039) and Sr Superstart SI 96 ($97,554), etc.

This is the family of stakes winner Bcr My Main Man SI 102 ($167,577, stakes winner and AQHA Dam of Distinction Beat Your Pants Off SI 103 ($22,440), stakes-placed Splashing Viking SI 107 ($43,310), etc.

Owned by James Markum and Steve D. Burns, Mpshinning will stand for a fee of $2,500. Cooled semen is available.

MENTAL ERROR

Mental Error SI 103 was retired from racing last month after finishing a close third in the $25,000 First Down Dash Handicap(G3) at Los Alamitos Race Course. Bred by Steve D. Burns, DVM, Mental Error was purchased by Bobby Simmons in the 2018 Los Alamitos Equine Mixed Sale.

Under the direction of champion trainer Paul Jones, the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel won or placed in 11 races and earned $398,934. He won the Kaweah Bar Handicap(G3 and First Day of Spring Stakes, was second in the Los Alamitos Super Derby(G1), Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity(G2) and third in the Los Alamitos Winter Derby(G1), First Down Dash Handicap(G3) and Z Wayne Griffin Directors Handicap.

Mental Error was also a finalist in the Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1), Vessels Maturity(G1), Spencer L Childers California Breeders Championship(G1), Go Man Go Handicap(G1), PCQHRA Breeders Futurity(G2) (fastest qualifier), and Southern California Derby(G2).

Mental Error is a son of leading sire Favorite Cartel SI 104, a grade 1 stakes winner of $607,669. From 7 crops of 2-year-olds to reach racing age the son of former Horse of the Year Favorite Trick (TB) has sired 88 stakes winners, 3 champions, 499 winners with earnings of $29.5 million.

Mental Error's dam is the stakes winning Chicks Beduino mare IBA Quick Chick SI 95 ($38,422), dam of 8 ROM, 7 winners, 3 black type including Grade 3 winner and G1-placed Mental Error SI 102 (see above), Grade 3 winner Rite Quick SI 101 ($95,834), stakes-placed My Pillow SI 95 ($53,036 to 4, 2021), etc.

The second dam is the stakes-placed Barrymore mare Barrymerri SI 105, a sister to stakes winner Docs Easy Cash SI 114 ($44,246) and stakes-placed Barryme SI 97 ($45,921), etc. Barrymore is the dam of 9 ROM, 7 winners, 2 black type including stakes winner IB Chick Quick SI 105 ($56,222), stakes winner IBA Quick Chick SI 95 (see above), G3-finalist Corona Barry SI 103 ($45,425), etc.
