Two-time champion and leading first-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 got his first stakes winner on Sunday when Double Down 123 wono the Grade 2 Kindergarten Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Champion Flying Cowboy 123 Gets First Graded Stakes Winner

WHEELOCK, TX–MAY 14, 2023–Two-time champion and leading first-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 got his first stakes winner on Sunday when Double Down 123 won the Grade 2 $275,900 Kindergarten Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course (see related story).

A $35,000 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate, Double Down 123 scored her first career win in three starts when she defeated fastest qualifier and post-time favorite Racy Sweet Corona in the 300 yard finale on Sunday.  Jockey Armando Cervantes rode her to a :15.436 clocking, equaling a 96 speed index.

Trainer Monty Arrossa saddled his third consecutive Kindergarten Futurity winner for owners Taos River Ranch LLC and Randy Young. The $115,878 winner's purse boosted the juvenile filly's earnings total to $118,263. Bob and Jerry Gaston bred Double Down 123 in Texas from the Fisher Dash mare Double Down Darling.

Currently the leading first-crop sire of earnings and winners, Flying Cowboy 123 has had 14 winners from 52 starters. He has 1 stakes winner, 2 stakes-placed, earnings of over $378,000.

His top performers include Double Down 123 SI 96 (winner at  2, $118,263, Kindergarten Futurity-G2), Kj Flying Cowgirl SI 100 (winner at  2, $37,877 3rd-West Texas Futurity-G2), Famous Cartelcowgirl SI 86 (placed at 2, $10,764, 2nd Oklahoma Juvenile), Js Flying Chicken-PT SI 94 (winner at  2, $27,194 3rd-Oklahoma Paint And Appaloosa Futurity-G1), etc.

Over the past couple of weeks Flying Cowboy 123 sired finalist to the $1,207,540 Heritage Place Futurity(G1), $461,835 Sam Houston Futurity(G2), $51,315 Sam Houston Juvenile, $170,840 Old South Futurity and the $70,000-est. Hadley Giles Futurity. Finals to these races will be contested the last week of May and first week of June.

A two-time AQHA Racing Champion, Flying Cowboy 123 won eight of 13 career starts and earned $965,811. His wins included the Teas Classic Futurity(G1), Texas Classic Derby(G1) and third in the All American Derby(G1) and Rainbow Futurity(G1).

Owned-and-raced by Paragon Farms, LLC, Flying Cowboy 123 stood to a full book in 2023 at Granada Farms for a fee of $5,600.
