TQHA Yearling Sale Kicks Off With Increases in Average and Median

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 25, 2014—TQHA Yearling Sale kicked off the major yearling auction season today (Jul 25) in San Antonio with increased results compared to last year's final figures.

The first session sold 94 horses for $1,042,400 gross. The first day average of $11,089 was a 7% gain compared to last year's overall of $10,353. The median enjoyed a 9% rise to $6,000 as compared to $5,500 in 2013.

Perrys Dreamgirl, a half-sister to Bodacious Eagle who finished third in this year's Ruidoso Futurity(G1) and fourth in the Rainbow Futurity(G1), brought the first session's highest price when James Cordell went to $77,000 for the Mr Jess Perry daughter. Bobby D. Cox was the consignor.

Valerino Racing paid $62,000 for Governor Pete, a colt by #6 leading first crop sire Dealagame out of Smiles All Around, by Feature Mr Jess. Granada Farms, agent for Mike Amburn, consigned the half-brother to the 2014 Oklahoma Derby winner One Valliant Hero.

James Cordell led all buyers in the first session with four purchases totaling $153,000. Valerino Racing had the one for $62,000 and Ted Rushing and Lee Lewis purchased one yearling for $60,000.

Bobby D. Cox is the leading consignor from day one with six yearlings grossing $245,000. Delta Equine, Agent for Mercy Hinklin's Horse Farm LLC sold five head for $96,800 and J F Racing & Farm LLC had six yearling total $79,000.

Mr Jess Perry was the leading sire of yearlings by average (two or more sold) in the first session with two averaging $68,500. Dealagame sired two sale yearlings that averaged $31,500 and first sale crop sire Dominyun had two yearlings average $31,000.

The sale's final session gets underway at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Jul 26) in the in the Exposition Hall at the Freeman Coliseum. Hips 131 thru 263 will be offered.
