The Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Sale enjoyed across the board increases in the their opening Quarter Horse session on Friday.

New Mexico-Bred Quarter Yearling Sale Posts Record Gains

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 15, 2014—A decrease in the number of yearlings offered propelled the Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale to record levels on Friday night.

The sale, topped by a First Moonflash colt for $60,000, was held at the Ruidoso Horse Sale Company Pavilion at Ruidoso Downs.

There were 123 of 131 offered reported as sold for total receipts of $1,782,500, exceeding last year's total of $1,778,900 on 179 head sold. The average purchase price increased by 47% to $14,979 eclipsing the 2013 average of $9,938. The median price was up 61% to $10,000 as compared to $6,200 last year.

Don and Lane Reynolds bought the sale-topping First Moonflash colt, named Jess A Stain Flash, from the Double LL Farms consignment. By last year's leading first-crop sire, the colt is out of the RG3 placed Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Satin ($78,915). She is the dam of 5 ROM including RG1 Zia Futurity winner Jess A Chicks ($175,537) and RG2 placed Jess A Stain Chicks ($58,092).

M&J Racing purchased Hip 57 James Bordeaux, a Jesse James Jr colt out of Bridgett Bordeaux for $57,000. The second high-seller was consigned by MJ Farms. Bridgett Bordeaux is a restricted G3 daughter of Blushing Bug and the dam of RG3 placed Brancott ($59,537).

MJ Farms, Agent For Benny Smith sold the third high-seller, another Jesse James Jr colt to David E. Barrett and J&SM, Inc. for $55,000. Out of the This Snow Is Royal mare Dashin Thru The Snow, Jess Getting It is a half-brother to RG1 winner Royal Snowflakes ($142,679), RG2 placed My Box Of Chocolates ($104,921), and RG1 placed Strait Away Fame ($68,832).

West Texas Racing Partnership was the Quarter Horse session's leading buyer with three head totaling $86,000. M & J Racing had two purchases for $81,000 and Terry Stennett bought three head for $77,000.

Double LL Farms was the leading consignor and/or agent by gross with 41 head for $680,700, MJ Farms, Agent sold 27 head for $535,100, MJ Farms, Agent for Benny Smith had two yearlings for $100,000 and Sierra Blanca Equine sold four yearlings for $44,600.

Chicks A Blazin was the leading sale sire (by average, two or more sold) with five head averaging $21,400. Woodbridge had 11 yearlings average $22,336 and Winners Version had seven yearlings for $20,500.
