Urschels Buy Second Six-Figure Yearling in Second Ruidoso Session

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 30 2014—Dan and Jolene Urschel signed the ticket on their second $200,000+ yearling Saturday night when they bought the $235,000 second session sale topping Tempting Dash colt Betchacantcatchme.

The Canadian, Texas couple that raced the breed's only Triple Crown winner, Special Effort in 1981, also purchased Lonely Tonight for $200,000 in the opening session. Dreams Comes True Ranch consigned Betchacantcatchme, out of the stakes winning and multiple stakes producing Takin On The Cash mare Dreams For Lyndise.

Saturday's second session continued a double-digit increase in the sale average to $45,889 as compared to the 2013 final sale average of $41,480. The median held even with last year at $30,000 after 224 were sold from the 291 head that passed through the ring. The first two session preliminary gross is $10,281,400.

Twenty-nine yearlings have broken the $100,000 barrier, five have surpassed $200,000 and the sale topper after two sessions, Rip Tide, a Corona Cartel colt who brought $300,000 on the first night from Reliance Ranches, LLC is still the sale highest selling yearling.

Reliance Ranches, LLC paid $220,000 for Saturday's second high-seller Jess Fire Me Thru. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Speed LLC consigned the Walk Thru Fire colt out of the G1 winning and multiple stakes producing Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Sass Me.

J J Cool, LLC purchased Hip 237 for $200,000, a One Famous Eagle filly out of the stakes winning First Down Dash mare Aquafina. Cosigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent, the filly is from the second crop out of the full sister to world champion Wave Carver and champion Ocean Runaway.

Reliance Ranches, LLC is the sales leading buyer through two sessions with 10 purchases totaling $1,382,000. Dan and Jolene Urschel bought four head for $480,00 and Johnny Trotter has purchased two yearlings for $312,000.

Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent, is the sales leading consignor with 14 head for $1,210,000. Burns Ranch has sold 12 yearlings for $620,500 and Julianna Hawn Holt has nine yearlings that totaled $547,500.

Corona Cartel is the leading sale sire through two sessions (by average with two or more sold) with 19 yearlings averaging $88,211. Walk Thru Fire has six yearlings that averaged $85,500 and leading second crop sire Tempting Dash sold eight yearlings for a $79,813 average.

G1 winner Favorite Cartel is the leading first-sale crop sire (by average with two or more sold) through the first two sessions with four yearlings averaging $61,750. World champion Apollitical Jess has four yearlings averaging $59,250 and G1 winner Bodacious Dash has three yearlings for a $55,167 average.
