Jensen Breaks Collarbone In Spill in Grade 1 Millie Vessels Memorial

CYPRESS, CA—SEPTEMBER 29, 2014—The 2013 AQHA World Champion, and two-time G1 All American Futurity winning jockey Cody Jensen suffered a broken collarbone last night during the running of the G1 Millie Vessels Memorial Handicap.

As the field broke from the starting gate at Los Alamitos Racecourse for the G1 event, Jensen was aboard the Paul Jones trained Native Tea Rose. As a yearling, Native Tea Rose brought a staggering $330,000 from the Lazy E Ranch consignment at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale of 2010. The Abigail Kawanakoa owned G2 winner went to the ground after only a handful of strides from the start of the race, sending jockey Cody Jensen tumbling to the ground. Native Tea Rose was euthanized after suffering a spinal injury based on the evaluation of track veterinarian Becky Fitzgerald, DVM. Jensen was transported to a local hospital for evaluation concerning a possible injured shoulder.

Amy Jensen, Cody's wife, confirmed via text message to Stallionesearch.com that in fact the rider had suffered a broken collarbone. Jensen has suffered from multiple injuries in the past, including a broken clavicle that required surgery on May 20, 2013 after a spill at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.

Jensen is currently second in the national standing in money earned with $2,334,780 for 2014. He was the winning jockey for the 2014 G1 $1,000,000 Heritage Place Futurity, as well as the G1 Rainbow Derby, and Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity this year.
