OPELOUSAS, LA—OCTOBER 22, 2014 –Veteran rider Alfonso Lujan broke five ribs and punctured a lung in a spill Wednesday night at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, Louisiana.

Lujan was having a winning night at Evangeline Downs on Wednesday, as he booted home Jb Magnik for the victory in the 2nd race on the October 22nd card at Evangeline.

In the 5th race, Lujan was mounted aboard Ray Robbins trained Integratee in a $5,000 Maiden Claiming event going 400 yards. Lujan and Integratee broke alertly, and battled down the stretch to cross the wire in second place, but quickly fell to the racecourse several jumps past the wire.

Jockey Donell Blake, who was riding Juan Picazo trained Kold Blow N Air, was unable to avoid the fallen horse and rider in front of him, and also took a spill to the Evangeline Downs racecourse. Blake was able to rise and walk off the racetrack under his own power, and went on to ride the rest of his mounts for the remainder of the card.

Unfortunately, Lujan was transported to the emergency room from his injuries.

"I'm stable, but I have a collapsed lung and five broken ribs," Lujan told StallioneSearch.com via his cell phone late Wednesday night. "From the broken ribs, I also have a punctured lung," he added.

Stallionsearch.com was unable to obtain the conditions of either horses that were involved in the spill at Evangeline Downs. However, according to reports Kold Blow N Air got up following the spill and proceeded to run freely before being wrangled by the outriders.
