Los Alamitos Race Course Statement Regarding Two Positive Tests In Derby Trials

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MARCH 39, 2017—Two Quarter Horses, one which competed in the La Primera Del Ano Derby trials on March 11 and one that competed in the El Primero Del Ano Derby trials on March 12, each tested positive for a B2-agonist on post-race hair testings conducted at the University of California, Davis after the trials and will not participate in the derby finals to be held this weekend at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Trained by Chris O’Dell, Trippys Royal Jess tested positive for the B2-agonist Zilpaterol on a hair sampled on March 15 following her La Primera Del Ano Derby trial victory on Saturday, March 11.

Trippys Royal Jess had posted the fastest of 10 qualifying times to the 400-yard race, but has now received a non-time in the trials to this Saturday’s La Primera final. Staggering Strides will take the place of Trippys Royal Jess in the La Primera final.

Trained by Paul Jones, Whata Corona tested positive for the B2-agonist Clenbuterol on a hair sampled on March 15 following his second-place finish in his El Primero Del Ano Derby trial at 400-yards on Sunday, March 12.

Whata Corona had posted the eighth fastest of 10 qualifying times to this Sunday’s El Primero final. Walk Thru Septacular will take the place of Whata Corona in the El Primero final.

Trippys Royal Jess and Whata Corona will not be able to race again at Los Alamitos Race Course until appropriate hair and blood tests are conducted and results are negative.
