Memorial Service Set Friday for Longtime Oregon Horseman Jim Boyle

KLAMATH FALLS, OR—APRIL 24, 2018—A memorial service has been set Friday for longtime Oregon horseman James ''Jim'' Chester Boyle. Boyle, 70 of Klamath Falls, Oregon, passed away on April 18.

Services will be held in Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd on Friday at 1 pm (PDT). A reception will follow in the courtyard of Mia & Pia's Pizzeria & Brewhouse in Klamath Falls.

Jim was born on Nov. 11, 1947, in Salem, Ore., to Chester and Dorothy (Dalton) Boyle. He spent most of his youth in the Rainier area. He attended Rainier and Sisters high schools, lettering in football, track and wrestling. He graduated from Sisters High School in 1965 and went on to attend Central Oregon College, where he also lettered in wrestling.

Jim joined the Navy in 1967 and was stationed aboard the USS Bennington as an aviation electronics technician (radar) airman and aviation antisubmarine warfare operator. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1972, Jim returned to Oregon to continue his studies. He earned three degrees in history and education from Eastern Oregon and Western Oregon colleges.

Jim was a teacher for the Klamath County School District for 29 years with the majority of them at Henley Middle School, teaching history. His love for both history and his students led to his being awarded the Oregon Outstanding Teacher of American History in 2000.

Jim coached volleyball, track, and basketball at the middle school and assisted with the Henley volleyball teams at the high school. He was a well-rounded, multi-dimensional man who had a great many interests in life.

He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and spent many years raising, training and running Quarter Horses. He spent many hours researching pedigrees, always looking to breed the best horses possible.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved farming, remodeling his home, riding his motorcycle, watching NASCAR, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He didn't know a stranger and there wasn't a subject he wouldn't discuss. He was a true and generous friend, always willing to lend a helping hand. He did so many things and was passionate about everything he did. He touched the lives of many people.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Chet and Dorothy.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Joan; her daughters Teryl Michel, Tiffany (Kevin) Schwanenberg, and Tracy Michel; his son Christopher (Michelle) Boyle, whom he shared with former wife Myrene Cunningham; grandchildren Alecia and Brenden; sister Jane McClure; brothers Donald (Peggy) Boyle, Dean (Melinda) Boyle, and David (Suzanne) Boyle; uncle Glenn (Marilyn) Boyle; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or a Horse Rescue Society of your choice.
