Longtime Quarter Horse Owner Dr. Edward Leslie Passed Away

FRANKFORT, KY—JULY 18, 2018—Dr. Edward D. Leslie, a longtime owner/breeder of racing Quarter Horses, died July 8 in Kentucky He was 76.

Dr. Leslie was born on December 2, 1941 in Weeksbury, Kentucky. He resided in Frankfort, Kentucky and Debary, Florida.

A graduate of Transylvania University and the University of Kentucky School of Medicine, he practiced as an orthopedic surgeon for 30 years. He also served in the Vietnam War as a physician.

Dr. Leslie was proceeded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Edward B. Leslie and brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Rondall H. Leslie.

He is survived by his faithful and loved companion of 38 years Judy Wellman, their 5 grandchildren, Judy’s 2 children (Brad Wellman and Lori Denton) and spouses, his two brothers (Dr. Larry Leslie and Dr. Keith Leslie) and sisters-in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews will miss him deeply.

His great loves were practicing medicine, family, history, horses, dogs, golf, and martinis. He raised and raced a number Quarter Horses including the multiple Grade 1 winner Gold Digging Ashley, a daughter of Inseperable who won the Southwest Juvenile Championship and Sooner State Stakes at Remington Park, while earning over $355,000. A sister to Gold Digging Ashley, Ashleys Malibu Gold, who won her trial for the Speedhorse Futurity(G3) on Saturday at Fair Meadows.

Dr. Leslie and partner Dr. John Whipp owned and stood the Quarter Horse stallion Rolls Of Romance, a son of Dash For Cash from the Easy Jet mare Love N Money, in Oklahoma.

His distinct personality and intellect generated great respect, and his love and care for others demonstrated his heart. He was a great man and a life well lived. A private family service will be held at a later date.
