Rainbow Purse Money Held Up Following Notification of Positive Test Reports from July 6-8 Trials

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 30, 2018—According to a published report by TRACK Magazine today, purse money for the 1st and 2nd place finishers in the 2018 Rainbow Derby(G1) and 2nd place in the Rainbow Futurity(G1), contested over the weekend of July 21-22, have not been paid.

Trainers for the Rainbow Derby winner Political Attraction and runner-up Hes Limitless and Rainbow Futurity runner-up Lethal Lil have been notified their horses reportedly received positive tests from their trial races run July 6 thru 8. The cases have not been adjudicated.

New Mexico Racing Commission rules state that if a horse is taken down for a violation in a trial it also loses any funds that might have been earned in a final.

According to the report there are additional recent minor violations in New Mexico that have not be adjudicated.

On June 22nd this year, following a contract expiration with Maddy Lab at the University of California-Davis, the New Mexico Racing Commission moved drug testing for the state's racetracks to Industrial Laboratories of Colorado.
