LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 30, 2018—Quarter Horse jockey Oscar Peinado, a Los Alamitos-based Quarter Horse jockey who has ridden earners of more than $5 million, was injured in a spill Sunday night at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Peinado was unseated after 2-year-old Unusual Kiddy fell soon after start of Sunday’s 8th race, a $12,500 claimer, at Los Alamitos. The jockey was conscious and responsive when he was asked questions, prior to being transported to Long Beach Memorial.

According to a "tweet" early Monday from track announcer Ed Burgart, Peinado's agent April Ward reported the jockey suffered fractured vertebrae in his neck and back, however he has no paralysis and surgery is possible.

In 2018, Peinado has ridden 25 winners with earnings of $303,485, including piloting Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) and Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity(G2) finalist 2-year-old Sc Money Maker.

Since 2009 he has compiled a (2,397) 258-376-328 record with earnings of $5.07 million. Among his top mounts are Charger Bar Handicap winner Jess Good Reason, Spencer L. Childers California Breeders Championship winner Flay as well as stakes horses Senor Toby, Separate Interest, Jess Mas, and He Is The Risingstar to name a few.
