Funeral Services Set Friday for Longtime Horseman Jerry Sipes

NORMAN, OK—OCTOBER 11, 2018—Funeral services will be held Friday in Atoka Oklahoma for longtime Oklahoma horseman Jerry Dale Spies,69. He died Tuesday in Norman after a long battle with cancer.

Rev. Paul Jones will officiate a 2 p.m. service on Friday (Oct. 12) at Brown's Funeral Chapel in Atoka, Oklahoma. Interment will be at Green Meadows Cemetery in Atoka.

Jerry, a Norman, Oklahoma resident, was born October 27, 1948, to Buenos Aires and Virginia Catherine (O'Quinn) Sipes, at Antlers, Oklahoma.

He graduated from Tushka High School where he was the Salutatorian of his class and then attended college at South Easter State University. Jerry was a car salesman for Craig Ayers Chevrolet in Edmond. He owned and operated J & N Motors in Oklahoma City.

Jerry married Nona Stevens on January 17, 1979 at Edmond, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death after 26 years of marriage. Jerry was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

He enjoyed horse racing and raising horses. Jerry sold A Streak of Fling, the #4 leding barrel horse sire of money earners with more than $3.7 million, to Brian and Lisa Fulton of Valentine, Nebraska in 2003 and they were very good friends. He was a very fun loving person who was loyal and honest.

The Sipes family received a Legacy Award from AQHA for 50 years of continuous breeding for the late B.A. Sipes and Don and Regina McDonald (Jerry's sister). Jerry was very proud of this achievement.

Jerry is survived by his brothers, Roger Sipes and wife Della of Atoka, OK, Joe Sipes and wife Cathy of Konawa, OK; sister, Regina McDonald and husband Don of Norman, OK; nieces, Regina Sipes of Atoka, OK, Jodi Sipes of Ada, OK, Kristi Hamilton of Atoka, OK, Jennifer Marsh of Konawa, OK, Tonja White of Celina, TX; nephews, Roger Glen Sipes of Atoka, OK, Jimmy Alexander of Atoka, OK; daughter, Sherrie Boyd of Guthrie, OK; daughter-in-law, Diane Stevens of Norman, OK; grandchildren and great grandchildren; special friend, Alice Linsday of Norman, OK; along with other relatives and many dear and loved friends.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Buenos and Virginia Catherine (O'Quinn) Sipes; wife, Nona Sipes; brother, Buenos "Buddy" Sipes Jr.; sister, Shirley Sipes; step sons, Johnny Stevens, Tony Stevens.
