AQHA Racing National Poll Remains Tight As December Approaches

AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION—NOVEMBER 28, 2018—With just one month left in the year, both AQHA Racing National Polls feature close races for the top spot.

Among the 2-year-olds, All American Futurity (G1) winner Apocalyptical Jess continues to lead the poll, as he has since winning the sport’s richest race on Labor Day at Ruidoso Downs. However, the son of Apollitical Jess is no longer a unanimous No. 1 after finishing sixth in the Texas Classic Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park earlier in November.

MM Fourinthemorning, who won the Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs and finished fifth in the All American, is second in the rankings. Flash And Roll, winner of the Golden State Million Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos, is in third.

Over this past weekend, Flash And Roll qualified to the $1,878,425 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1). The First Moonflash filly will get the chance to impress voters a final time in the December 16 final. This coming weekend’s racing action includes the $150,000 Southwest Juvenile Invitational Championship (G1) at Zia Park with No. 9-ranked Suze Returns among the entrants.

In the older-horse ranks, two-time reigning world champion Jessies First Down continues to hold the No. 1 spot by a slim margin over Hotstepper, winner of the Grade 1 All American and Texas Classic derbies.

There are still several major races left that could change the rankings, with the $200,000 Zia Park Championship Stakes (G1) this weekend, and the Champion of Champions (G1) at Los Alamitos and The Championship at Sunland Park (G1) later in the month.
