RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JANUARY 14, 2019—The original nomination payment of $250 for foals of 2018 to be nominated to the 2020 All American Triple Crown at Ruidoso Downs must be postmarked by January 15.

That $250 payment nominates a foal of 2018 to the 2020 All American Futurity, Rainbow Futurity, and Ruidoso Futurity. If the horses are ultimately paid in full to the futurities, they are then eligible to nominate to the All American Derby, Rainbow Derby and the Ruidoso Derby in 2021. There are additional races associated with each futurity and derby for those which do not qualify to the final.

The $250 nomination payment for a foal of 2018 starts the eligibility process for these iconic, Grade 1 races that, historically, offer combined purses and bonuses of more than $10,000,000.

Any horse which wins all three futurities will earn for its owner a $2-million All American Triple Crown Futurity Bonus. The subsequent Triple Crown Derby Bonus offers $1 million to the three-year-old which wins all three races.

Announced last year as a new feature beginning in 2020, fillies will be eligible to race in the Rainbow Oaks and the All American Oaks, which are restricted to eligible three year fillies. Fillies born in 2018 could compete in the Oaks races in 2021.

The purses for the Oaks races shall be apportioned from each individual race account based on a pro rata share of eligible fillies to colts/geldings for each race. At entry for the time trials, the trainer must designate whether the filly will race in the “open” Derby or the fillies-only Oaks race.

Foals of 2018 may also become eligible to the Mr Jess Perry, the Corona Cartel and the First Down Dash. The Mr Jess Perry is for horses that did not qualify for the Ruidoso Derby, the Corona Cartel is for horses that did not qualify for the Rainbow Derby and the First Down Dash is for horses that did not qualify for the All American Derby.

There is also a payment due on January 15 for nominated foals of 2017 to remain eligible to 2019 Ruidoso, Rainbow and All American futurities. The Ruidoso Futurity payment is $700, the Rainbow Futurity payment is $700 and the All American Futurity payment is $800.

These horses will compete for the $2-million All American Triple Crown Futurity Bonus.
