PORTLAND, OR—MARCH 31, 2019—Portland Meadows a longtime Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred racetrack in the Pacific Northwest is closing for good according to an article published this week on the PortlandMonthly.com website.

A permit for "initial phase redevelopment" of the track property was filed on Wednesday according to Portland city records. The longtime facility sits on 64.65 acres. The track just completed its 2018-2019 racing season in February.

Portland Meadows, opened its doors in 1946. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the track hosted legendary concerts, and in recent years it attracted a crowd for marquee events like its Kentucky Derby party and live race meets.

In 2013, the track underwent massive rebranding efforts spearheaded by Portland creative agency OMFGCO. In 2016, It was a filming location for "Lean On Pete", a movie based on the novel of the same name by Willy Vlautin.

The Stronach Group acquired a portion of the property in 2011 along with the racing permit.

The track was home to the Far West Futurity for state-bred 2-year-olds, Baxter Andruss Futurity and Portland Meadows Fall Derby for Quarter Horses.
