Revised Quarter Horse Stakes Schedule Available For Prairie Meadows

ALTOONA, IA—MAY 27, 2020—A revised stakes schedule for the 2020 Prairie Meadow Quarter Horse meet is now available on the IQHRA website.

The Prairie Meadows Board of Directors approved a recommendation last week by the track's President and CEO, Gary Palmer, to open the track's backstretch June 1, 2020. Backstretch safety protocols, due to the COVID-19 virus, will be announced soon.

In conjunction with the backstretch opening, racing dates have been tentatively requested and will go to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s June 4 meeting for their approval.

For Quarter Horses, those tentative racing dates are from June 26-September 26, a total of 54 days of racing. Racing will be held four days a week Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has now approved spectators to attend the races at Prairie Meadows.

As announced earlier, Prairie Meadows’ 2020 mixed meet format will feature Quarter Horses running a minimum of three races per day and those races will always be run first on the daily racing card.

The schedule is led by the $250,000-est. Valley Junction Futurity (G3), which is set to have trials on September 4 and final on the weekend of September 25.
