SHELBYVILLE, IN—NOVEMBER 13, 2025—The 2025 Horseshoe Indianapolis Quarter Horse meet wrapped up with familiar names topping the season’s leaderboards across trainers, jockeys, and owners.

A highly competitive campaign produced standout performances in every category, capped by the Horse of the Year, Streakindownthebeach.

Eggleston Secures Training Title

Tim Eggleston dominated the training ranks, finishing as the meet’s Leading Trainer with 51 wins from 291 starters and earnings of $1,545,801. His 18% win rate and 123 top-three finishes underscored a remarkably consistent season.

"We could not accomplish all of this without all the people in this winner’s circle," said Eggleston, who was joined by members of his barn along with several owners and jockeys. "The owners are the ones that help get us to this point, and without the crew working as hard as they do day in, day out, we could never have this kind of success."

A native of Michigan, Eggleston was on the rodeo circuit and rode bulls before turning his attention to Quarter Horse training. He and his wife, Keli, eventually relocated to Scottsburg, Ind., where they now have a farm and training center in addition to keeping horses at the track year-round. Eggleston depends on Keli to keep the farm operations running along with their daughter Aydin, who is also active in barrel racing.

Heading into the final racing program of the season, horses from the Eggleston barn had earned more than $1.5 million in the Quarter Horse ranks alone. Rock N the Beach also gave Eggleston his second Graded Stakes victory a month ago in the $359,400 Miss Roxie Little Futurity, the richest Quarter Horse race ever in the state of Indiana. Other standouts along the way included Beach First, winner of the Blue River Derby, and Streakindownthebeach, a winner in five races and 2025 Quarter Horse of the Meet.

Anthony F. Cunningham finished second with 34 victories and $832,743 in earnings from a meet-high 318 starts. Close behind, Claudio Barraza turned in one of the most efficient seasons of the year, finishing third with 26 wins, a strong 20% strike rate, and $831,017 in purse earnings.

Luna Diaz Claims Jockey Championship

Luis Eduardo Luna Diaz closed out the meet as the Leading Jockey, notching 33 wins from 168 mounts and nearly $790,000 in purse earnings. His 20% win clip and 78 top-three finishes solidified him as the rider to beat in Shelbyville.

“I’m very happy and so thankful to be part of such a great team (referring to the Eggleston barn),” said Diaz through translation by Jocky Rolando Pina. “It has been a great year, and I am blessed with everything going on around me right now. I want to thank everyone from the team for their support.”

Diaz followed into racing through the footsteps of his older brother, Edgar, who was the 2024 Leading Quarter Horse Jockey with 32 wins last year. The younger Diaz passed his tally by one win this year to gain some family bragging rights over the older Diaz. Now a multiple stakes winning jockey, Diaz has ridden 47 winners to more than $1.1 million in purses over the past two season.

Some of the top horses he guided during the year included Jolie Laide and Streakindownthebeach, who was named 2025 Quarter Horse of the Year. Diaz was aboard for all five of the grey gelding’s wins this year to earn the honor.

Off-season of racing, Diaz works for the Eggleston team, preparing the young horses for racing at both Eggleston’s farm in Scottsburg, Ind., as well as a string of horses on the grounds at Horseshoe Indianapolis. He plans to be back in action when the 24th season of racing gets underway in April 2026.

Diaz was presented with a personalized belt buckle for his honor as the meet’s top Quarter Horse jockey. Eric Halstrom, vice president and general manager of racing, along with Chris Polzin, director of racing, made the winner’s circle presentation.

Luz Daniel Martinez secured second with 26 victories. At the same time, Edgar Diaz delivered an impressive third-place finish in the standings with 21 wins from just 91 mounts, posting the highest win percentage among the top three at an exceptional 23%.

Campos Family Ventures Leads All Owners

Campos Family Ventures established a new record for most wins in one season at 17 last season, along with most purse earnings of $515,681, the first Quarter Horse owner to ever surpass the half-million dollar mark in purse earnings for one season. This year, they were close behind that record-setting year, earning 13 wins worth $428,257 in purses. The 2025 title is their third title in the past four seasons.

"Having back to back titles is very nice," said David Campos through translation from Trainer Claudio Barraza. "We are very proud to earn this award."

The highlight for the season for Campos Family Ventures was the win by CV Denali in the $107,690 Gordon Mobley Futurity Final. Other top horses for the year included Zoomin Feature, Paradise Beach, and Beach Burner. The organization purchased a training center outside of Connersville, Indiana about five years ago and have both Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses in training at their facility. They are also investing into the breeding end of the business in Indiana.

"The Campos family is pretty easy to work with," noted Barraza, who trains all of their Quarter Horses. "They trust us to make decisions with the horses. I am very grateful for this opportunity to train for them."

R Chavez Racing, LLC finished second with 8 victories, while a three-way tie for third featured Thomas Wylie, Phillip R. Harrison, and Roger & Kimberly Beam, each registering 7 wins on the season. Wylie and Harrison posted particularly strong win percentages at 30% and 32%, respectively.

Horse of the Year: Streakindownthebeach

The meet’s brightest star, Streakindownthebeach, delivered a season worthy of Horse of the Year honors. The gray gelding, foaled in 2020 and sired by Habits Secret out of Beach Runner by Escondido Beach, was trained by Tim Eggleston and ridden by top jockey Luis Eduardo Luna Diaz for owner Buddy Presley.

Bred by Edward A. Pennington, he compiled an outstanding 2025 campaign with 5 wins and 2 seconds from 8 starts, earning $137,030.

"He (Streakindownthebeach) just keeps getting better and better every year and had his best year to date this year at the age of five," noted Eggleston, who is among the top five all-time leading Quarter Horse trainers in Indiana with 206 wins. "He has really raced well this season for Mr. (Buddy) Presley."

His season highlights included victories in the Bob Woodlard Memorial Classic Stakes, Easys Night Beat Overnight Stakes, and a strong allowance score. He also finished second in the Born Runner Classic Stakes and fourth in the Hoosier Park Classic Stakes. With 9 wins and $253,512 in career earnings, Streakindownthebeach has firmly established himself as one of the elite Indiana-bred performers of his generation.

The 2025 Horseshoe Indianapolis Quarter Horse meet concluded with exceptional performances across the board, setting the stage for another exciting year in Shelbyville’s ever-growing Quarter Horse racing program.

The 23rd season of live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing concluded Thursday, Nov. 13. Racing returns for the 24th season Tuesday, April 7.
