Apollitical Iceman Draws Post 7 For Monday's AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity
BY MICHAEL CUSORTELLI
PHOENIX, AZ–DECEMBER 6, 2024–Apollitical Iceman, graded stakes placed son of world champion Apollitical Jess racing for Rancho La Aventura LLC, is one of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Monday's 350-yard, $30,000-added AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity at Turf Paradise.
The second-fastest qualifier from four trials run November 18, Apollitical Iceman made his local debut with a three-quarter length victory in the second heat. The gray gelding has earned $89,981 from eight starts, and his record includes a second-place finish, four lengths behind winner Electrifying Cowboy, in the October 20, $386,000 La Fiesta Futurity (G3) at Albuquerque Downs.
Apollitical Iceman was a $110,000 purchase at last year's Heritage Place Yearlilng Sale in Oklahoma City. The gelding drew post 7, and Luis Martinez has been named to ride for trainer David Gomez-Barraza.
Gomez-Barraza will also send out fastest qualifier Jess Thru A Cartel, a gelded son of Corona Cartel racing for Jimmy Vasquez, Scott Branson, and Lionel Carrasco Onsurez. A $60,000 buy at last year's Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Jess Thru A Cartel is coming off of a three-quarter length win in the first AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity trial.
Jess Thru A Cartel drew post 9 and will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr.
