PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 22, 2019—Fastest qualifier Desert Scorpion drifted out under jockey Hizain Camacho and was disqualified from first to eighth after defeating Jess Remember Me by a heck in the $11,000 Turf Paradise Maiden Stakes (not black type) Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise.

Jess Remember Me broke a bit awkward, from the ninth post under jockey Carlos Marquez, but completed the 350 yards in :17.783 seconds, equaling a 94 speed index. She was moved to first following the stewards disqualification.

Vanessa Marquez saddled the daughter of multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess for owner Luis Valenzuela. Bred in California by Steve D. Burns DVM, from the Corona Cartel mare Remember The Cartel, the 4-year-old filly has made only two official starts in her career. She earned $6,479 for today's effort.

Roberto Baeza's Heza Steady Shot was moved to second and earned $2,090 for his effort. Leonard Espinoza trains the Heza Motor Scooter 6-year-old horse, with Kevin Carbajal getting the riding call. Cesar Romero bred Heza Steady Shot in Arizona from the Dashing Cleat mare Brays Somekinda Lady.

Toretto, a 5-year-old son of Dominyun out of the multiple stakes producing First Down Dash mare Le Mishka, finished half-a-length back and was awarded third. George Sainz trains the Colorado-bred gelding for Susan Siggins. Vista Equine Colorado LLC is the breeder. Toretto has compiled a (15) 0-5-4 record and earned $11,097.
