Moonflash Deluxe Breaks Maiden In Mike Hastings Memorial

PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 29, 2019—Even after a stutter step start under jockey Mark Jasso, Moonflash Deluxe broke his maiden with a half-length win over Bringin It On in the $14,700 Mike Hastings Memorial Stakes (not black type) Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise.

Conditioned by Heraclio Botello, Moonflash Deluxe completed the 350 yards in :17.564 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index into a 7 mph crosswind. The $8,932 winners' purse boosted the son of champion sire First Moonflash's earnings to $22,267.

Racing for Yuriana Ramirez, Moonflash Deluxe entered the race off a second-place effort in the AQRA President's Fall Derby on November 11th. Grant Farms LLC bred the sorrel gelding in Louisiana from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Deluxe. He was also a finalist in the AQRA Spring Fling Futurity last season.

In just his second official start this year, stakes winner Bringin It On earned $2,881 for finishing second. Matthew Fales trains the homebred son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty for owner-breeders Ralph and Carolyn Fales. Jorge Bourdieu had the riding call aboard the 10-year-old gelding from the Corona Cartel mare Already In Love. He has earned $105,968.

Be Quiet, a California-bred son of Kiddy Up owned by Jose Mendoza, finished a head back to earn $1,441 for third. Eloy Navarro trains and Luis Valenzuela rode the 4-year-old gelding out of Thinking Out Loud by Check Him Out. Bred by Edward C. Allred, Be Quiet has earned $47,324.

Completing the field were May Be Fantastic SA, Streakin Seis Corona, Drop A Corona and Come N Catch Me.
