First Crop Sires Get Top Three Times In 2-Year-Old Schooling Races at Retama Park

SELMA, TX—FEBRUARY 8, 2020—Offspring from first crop sires got the top three times on Friday from 73 two-year-olds who participated in 13 schooling races over 220 yards at Retama Park.

Multiple Grade 2 winner Ivan James got two winners with the top two times while AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old Colt Ec Jet One sired two winners including the third-fastest race of the day.

Trainer Jose Sanchez III had seven winners including the two fastest.

In the 12th Race the young trainer saddled Roma, a daughter of Ivan James from the Tac It Like A Man mare Bp Tac Marys Policy for owner Omar Arriaga. Under jockey Francisco Calderon the bay filly stopped the timer in :13.38 seconds to earn the fastest time of the day.

Roma is also the first foal out of her stakes-placed dam Bp Tac Marys Polity. The second dam is the Shazoom mare Marys Southernpolicy, dam of seven black type. She is a half-sister to Ruidoso Derby(G2) winner and multiple stakes sire Southern Cartel.

In Race 8, Sanchez III and Calderon teamed with Magical Ivanna, another Ivan James filly, this one owned by Jose Sanchez. Magical Ivanna was clocked in :13.50 to earn the second fastest time on Friday. She is also the first foal out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Pr Magical Dash.

Sanchez III's other winners were: Race 3 Fm Dynamite Rock, Race 9 Ima Jet Stream, Race 10, Beduino La Jolla, Race 11 Runaway Trs Hero and Race 15 Quick Chicks Dynasty.

In Race 4, Super Fly B, a colt by champion Ec Jet One, under jockey V. Urieta, Jr. clocked a :13.65 time to earn the third fastest of the day. Josue Ponce, who saddled two winners on Friday's training card, trains the brown colt out of Kar Dash Ability B.

Jose Sandoval owns the Bielau Oaks Texas-bred from the family of stakes winners Iwannamakeitwithyou, Megas Way and Troubador B.

Ec Jet One's other winner was the aforementioned Ima Jet Stream saddled by Sanchez III.

FM Dynamite Rock, a $95,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate, posted the 4th fastest clocking for owner Jose Fabian Hernandez and trainer Jose Sanchez, III. Under jockey Francisco Calderon the son of leading sire Corona Cartel clocked a :13.68 time for the 220 yards.

The second foal from the First Down Dash mare Runaway Heart, FM Dynamite Rock is a half-brother to Heritage Place Juvenile runner-up Carters Favorite. The second dam is the stakes winning and multiple stakes producing Mr Jess Perry mare Dashingfordestiny.

The only other trainer with multiple winners on Friday was Angel Sanchez who saddled Hez Tuff LBH to victory in Race 6 and Royal Tales LBH to win in Race 13.

Tyhke Racing LLC led all owners with three winners on the card, the aforementioned Ima Jet Stream, Beduino La Jolla in Race 10 and Runaway Trs Hero in Race 11. Sanchez III saddled all three horses. Laurel Brothers Horses LLC had two winners on Friday with Hez Tuff Lbh in Race 6 and Royal Tales Lbh in Race 13.
