Jetblack Dynasty Top Qualifier In West Texas Derby Trials
Jetblack Dynasty (#9) heads No Sandbaggine (#10), Franklin Road (#3) and A Valiant Zoomer (#7) into the Grade 3 West Texas Derby finals in Friday's last trial at Sunland Park.

Jetblack Dynasty Top Qualifier In West Texas Derby Trials

SUNLAND PARK, NM—FEBRUARY 14, 2020—In a blanket-finish in the final trial, Jetblack Dynasty led the three top qualifiers into the $184,225 Grade 3 West Texas Derby Friday afternoon at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from six trial races conducted today, will return to Sunland Park on Saturday, March 7th to vie for the winners' share of the purse worth $86,585.

Ridden by jockey Noe Garcia, Jr., Jetblack Dynasty defeated No Sandbaggin by a neck in the final trial to get the top qualifying mark of :19.857 seconds. Today's victory was the second straight victory this year for the son of multiple stakes sire FDD Dynasty who was winless in four starts at 2.

Michael Joiner conditions the $65,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate who races for owner LMG Racing, Inc. Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm LLC bred the sorrel gelding in Texas from the Jet Black Patriot mare Jetblack Gold Moment.

The final trial produced four finalists including the three fastest qualifiers.

Runner-up No Sandbaggin, a California-bred son of second-crop sire Seperate Interest, posted a :19.882 clocking to garner the second fastest time. The lightly raced winner of last year's West Texas Juvenile races for owner La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC and trainer Jose Meraz.

Raul Herrera was aboard the brown filly bred by Steve D. Burns, DVM from the Corona Cartel mare Remember The Cartel. No Sandbaggin has compiled a (5) 2-2-0 record and banked $35,985.

Debra and Joseph Meridyth, Jr.'s Franklin Road was a neck back to grab the third fastest time of :19.883. Guadalupe Munoz, Jr. trains the Pyc Paint Your Wagon colt out of Miss Jess Perry by Mr Jess Perry.

Bred in Oklahoma by Dreamin Walkin Farms, Inc., Franklin Road bounced off a 10th place troubled allowance effort on January 12 to finishing third in his trial. Also lightly raced, the bay colt broke his maiden last November at Zia Park in his third career start.

Trainer Wesley Giles led all three trainers with three qualifiers—5th fastest A Valiant Zoomer, 7th fastest Kj Franklin B and 8th fastest Dynast C. Danny Urista had two qualifiers—6th fastest Mathildas Storm and 9th fastest Apollitical J Wild.

Live racing at Sunland Park takes place on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday basis through Tuesday, April 21, 2020. Post time to start the season is 12:25 p.m. Nine races will be carded on weekdays. Ten races will be presented on Saturdays and Sundays.
