Getit Hot Edges Clear in Grande Prairie Sprint Stakes

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB—ULY 12, 2020—A sharp break from the gate led to a narrow victory for Getit Hot in the $8,000 Grande Prairie Sprint (not black-type), a 110-yard dash for 3-year-olds and up.

Getit Hot ($4.70) was ridden by Ricardo Moreno; the post-time favorite finished in 7.471 and earned a 55 speed index. He is trained by William Leech for owner Charles Stojan.

Getit Hot is a 4-year-old daughter of Walk Thru Fire, bred in California by Martha Wells out of the Separatist mare Getit Together. The sprint was her first start since October, when she finished third in the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) at Albuquerque following her win in the Evergreen Park Derby Challenge regional qualifier. She is six for 12 lifetime with $57,972 in career earnings.

First Prize Cruise was a neck behind in second place with Martin Oritz aboard. The 5-year-old mare is trained, owned and bred by Tom Kenway in Alberta.

First Prize Cruise, a daughter of First Prize Doc, is out of the stakes-placed mare Eye Cruise, by Eye Take Time. She has five wins in 20 starts and has hit the board in several stakes, including a second-place finish in the Evergreen Park Distaff Challenge last August.

Rounding out the top three was Jd Wagon Boss, a 5-year-old horse ridden by Blandford Steward for owner and trainer Buckey Stockwell.

Jd Wagon Boss is an Oklahoma-bred son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon, bred by Jean Dillard out of the Fishers Dash mare Elly Mae. He has seven wins in 21 career efforts and was second in this race last year. In his 2-year-old year, Jd Wagon Boss won the Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge and finished second in the AQHA John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Prairie Meadows.
