Ferrari James Gets Second Keokuk Stakes Win

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 29, 2020—After finishing second in the Prairie Meadows $35,000 Keokuk Stakes(G3) last year, Ferrari James surged between foes to get his second win the Iowa stakes on Saturday.

Under jockey Jorge Torres, the 7-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Ivory James, drove between Jk Wildcat and Three Olives N Smoke to get his 14th career win. Ferrari James also won the 2018 Keokuk Stakes(G3).

Conditioned by trainer Alex Wessels, Ferrari James races for owner Alfredo Botello. Bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley and W.E. Smith, the multiple graded stakes winner has compiled a (38) 14-8-3 record and banked $335,759. He is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Ferarri Fast Prize.

Runner-up Jk Wildcat Red finished a head off the winner to earn $6,700 for owner Regina Laymon. Trainer Kenny Laymon conditions the son of world champion One Dashing Eagle from the Embrujo Fg mare Shaky Girl. Bred in Oklahoma by JK Running Horses LLC, Jk Wildcat Red has earned $91,535. Jonathan Dominguez had the riding call.

Graded stakes winner Three Olives N Smoke was another head back for owners Margo Schares and Brad Thomas. John Hammes saddled with Alberto Navarrete, Jr. riding the son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue. Schares bred the 7-year-old in Colorado from the Corona Cartel mare Smokin Corona. He has earned nearly $280,000.

Apollitical Mogul, El Oh El, Heza Blues Man, Hooked On A Win, Marfilmio and Saginaw Creek completed the field. First Of 15 was scratched.
