SELMA, TX—AUGUST 29, 2020—Silver City Lights and SS Classyjess each picked up a $40,000 undercard stakes victory Saturday night at Retama Park.
Live Oak Stakes
Multiple stakes winner Ss Classyjess was much the best Saturday night when she rolled to a 1-½ length win over Alluringeyeopener in the $40,000 Live Oak Stakes. Diamond G Bee finished another 1-¼ lengths back in third.
Ridden by jockey Juan Garcia, Ss Classyjess completed the 350 yards in :17.818 seconds, equaling a 91 speed index into a 17 mph headwind. It was the ninth career win for the 4-year-old Rock Solid Jess filly owned by Edgar Rosales. Jose Carrizales conditions the gray who earned $24,400 for the effort.
Ronnie Stewart and Double S Farm bred the filly from the Royal Sake Em mare High Class Broad. She has earned $126,013.
Runner-up Alluringeyeopener picked up $6,800 for his second-place effort. Alonso Neri trains the Specially Alluring 5-year-old for owner Salvador Velez. Rance Herring bred Alluringeyeopener from the Eye Yin You mare Sixmoon Bully. Manuel Urieta, Jr. was aboard the $100,000 earner.
Diamond G Bee, a daughter of third-crop sire Majestic Cartel, earned $4,000 for third. Bryon Gardner owns the 4-year-old form the Separatist mare Hermes For Me B. James B. Padgett, II trains the graded stakes-placed earner of nearly $60,000. Bryan Candanosa was riding.
Relevant Jess, This Is A Deal Too, Won Tres Seis and All About The Kiss completed the field. Jess Jj Watt Aw was scratched.
San Marcos Stakes
In the $40,000 870-yard San Marcos Stakes Silver City Lights dueled to neck win over Favorite Kool Cartel to take home the winner's purse valued at $24,000. Jockey Luis Vivanco guided the son of Silver City (TB) to a :47.259 clocking into an 8 mph headwind.

Runner-up Favorite Kool Cartel races for owner Enrique Ibarra and is conditioned by trainer Rolando Almanza. Ricardo Garza-Cruz had the riding call aboard the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel from the First N Kool mare Rustys Kool. Bred by Stuart and Strebig, Favorite Kool Cartel earned $7,200 for his effort.
One Mighty Eagle, a 5-year-old stakes-placed son of leading sire One Famous Eagle, picked up $4,400 after finishing seven-lengths back in third. James B. Padgett, II trains the sorrel gelding for owner Shirley Richardson. Out of the champion mare Kates Dynasty by FDD Dynasty, One Mighty Eagle was bred by the partnership of Smith, Windham and Guthrie. He has earned $30,848.
Hotseat, Frisco Jess and Jess A Hilbily Bone completed the field. Desire Astoli and Stolis Pro were scratched.
