Gone To Be Bright Dominated Century Mile Distance Stakes

EDMONTON, ALB—SEPTEMBER 4, 2020—Gone To Be Bright, under jockey D. Benitez, emerged the leader into the turn then drew away at the head of the stretch to defeat Big Hoss Rollin by 3- ¼ lengths in the $6,971(US) Century Mile Distance Stakes (not black type) Friday evening at Century Mile Racecourse.

World record holding Quarter Horse for most consecutive wins, Free Thought finished three-quarters back in third.

Conditioned by trainer William Leech, the multiple stakes winner completed the 870 yards in :45,849 seconds, equaling a 97 speed index. It was the fifth win in 25 starts for the son of Gone To The Mountain and boosted his bankroll to $46,583.

Gonetothebirghtside Syndicate owns the 5-year-old Alberta horse out of DJ Bright Tarbaby by Dj Bright Deja Vu. Jack and Deborah Williams are the breeder.

Runner-up Big Hoss Rollin held sway to finish second for owner-trainer Deanne Davies. J.B. Otello rode the 8-year-old son of Zillas Spin Doctor- out of Sables Val by Dashing Val. He earned $1,812 (US) for the effort.

Charles Stojan's Free Thought suffered his first loss since June 4, 2017. The Stel Corona gelding fanned four wide into the turn and was unable to move on with the pacesetters before lodging a mold rally to get third.

Trainer William Leech had saddled 9-yaer-old gelding to 18 consecutive wins. Ricardo Moreno rode the $113,321 earner. Edward C. Allred bred Free Thought in California from the Pritzi Dash mare Just Think.

Ss Frosty and Last Unicorn completed the field.
