Eyesa Timber Posts Fastest Qualifying Time to Alberta Bred Futurity

EDMONTON, AB—EPTEMBER 11, 2020—Two trials at Century Mile on Friday night determined the field to the $51,066(CAN) Alberta Bred Futurity (RG3), led by fastest qualifier Eyesa Timber. The 350-yard final will be held on September 25.

Eyesa Timber ($3.10) won the first trial by nearly two lengths and posted the fastest qualifying time of 17.886. Ridden by Jose Rocha, the First Timber gelding earned a 98 speed index in the win. Eyesa Timber was one of five qualifiers sired by the Canadian leading sire.

Eyesa Timber is owned, trained and bred by Wesley Oulton in Alberta, out of Eyesa Perry, by Mr. Jess Perry. The trial win was his second career win in five lifetime starts. He debuted at Remington and was second in his Heritage Place Futurity Trial. In June, he broke his maiden by winning a trial for the $67,335 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury Park and finished fifth in the final.

Halos Sign and J.B. Botello won the second trial in 18.229 to be the second fastest qualifier. Halos Sign ($6.10) was a gate-to-wire winner of her trial for trainer Allen Goodsell. Donalda Cochrane owns and bred the daughter of Wagon Tales, out of graded stakes winner Hawks Halo, by Hawkinson.

Halos Sign broke her maiden at first asking at Grande Prairie in August, followed by a runner-up performance in the John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge.

Third fastest qualifier Flyin Feelin was second in the first trial behind Eyesa Timber. The filly closed well to get up for second at a big price with a time of 18.232.

Like stablemate Halos Sign, Flyin Feelin was ridden by J. B. Botello for trainer Allen Goodsell. She is also owned and bred by Donalda Cochrane, by Special Fly Bye and out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Feelin the Fever, who won the Alberta Bred Futurity in 2011.

Flying Feelin is still a maiden after four career efforts but has only finished off the board once. She qualified to the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity in August, her first stakes appearance, and finished fifth in the final.

Canada's leading sire First Timber sired five of 10 qualifiers to the Alberta Bred Futurity.
