EDMONTON, AB—OCTOBER 25, 2020—A pair of Quarter Horse stakes closed out the card at Century Mile on Sunday night; in the first, Eyesa Timber defeated Jess Be First and Ulnvme To to win the $46,165(US) Grade 3 Canada Cup Quarter Horse Futurity.

The final time for the 400-yard stake was :20.251. Eyesa Timber, the heavy post-time favorite, earned a 97 speed index in the victory.

Eyesa Timber ($3.60) was ridden by J. B. Botello and is owned, trained and bred by Wesley Oulton in Alberta, out of Eyesa Perry, by Mr. Jess Perry.

Oulton trained the top two finishers and was the breeder of the entire trifecta, all by leading Canadian sire First Timber.

He debuted at Remington and was second in his Heritage Place Futurity Trial. In June, he broke his maiden by winning a trial for the $67,335 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury Park and finished fifth in the final. In his most recent start, he won the Alberta Bred Futurity, also at Century Mile.

In seven career starts, Eyesa Timber has banked $56,491. Sunday’s stake was the third consecutive win for the 2-year-old and his fourth career win.

Stablemate Jess Be First chased the winner to earn third place, a length in front of third-place finisher Ulnvme To.

Jess Be First was ridden by Neville Stephenson and is owned by Ralph Wiber and Dwaine Ferguson. The First Timber gelding is out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Ima Jess a Streaker.

Jess Be First was third in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity in August and also qualified to the Alberta Bred Futurity in September.

O. Hernandez had the call on Ulnvme To for trainer Allen Goodsell and owner Riordan Oulton. Also a First Timber gelding, he is out of Ulnvme, by Danjur. His three previous starts include a second place finish in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity in August.

Completing the field were Cerveza Corona, Halos Sign, Bound too Be First, Royale Runaway and Jagnestimber.
