Los Alamitos Equine Sale Graduate Moonshot Sets Fastest Time In SVLAC Futurity Trials

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—MAY 15, 2021—In his career debut Saturday, Moonshot broke his maiden with a neck win over Cuz Hez My Secret to set the fastest qualifying time for the $52,368 SVLAC Futurity at Laurel Brown Track.

Racing in the closing trial under jockey Gerardo Vera, Moonshot completed the 300 yards course in :15.492 seconds with a 5 mph tailwind to earn a 101 speed index and take to top qualifying spot for owner-trainer Glade Van Tassell.

A $40,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale Graduate by leading sire Favorite Cartel, Moonshot is a half-brother to stakes-placed Quarter Sawn from the Separatist mare Starline Delight, a sister to champion Inseperable and Grade 3 winner Separate Interest. Lila L. Kessinger is the breeder.

Tassell also saddled 7th fastest qualifier Jsg Comin In Hot, a son of multiple stakes sire Highest Fire.

Runner-up in the final trial Cuz Hez My Secret held on to the second fastest time of :15.559, a 92 speed index. Also a first-time starter, the son of Champion Hez Our Secret races for owner Burke Teeter and is conditioned by trainer Scott Warr.

A $9,000 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale graduate, Cuz Hez My Secret is out of the One Famous Eagle mare Cuz Shez Famous. He was bred in New Mexico by Mark and Fay Annett McCloy. Clay Teeter had the riding assignment.

Coming off a fourth-place effort in the Hadley-Giles Juvenile on May 1st, Precedentz got her second win in three starts with a one-length effort in the fifth trial under jockey Eric Ayala. She clocked at :15.738 time, a 92 speed index, to secure the third-fastest qualifying spot.

A $13,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate, Precedentz race for owner Merlin Sharp and is conditioned by leading trainer Monty Arrossa. AQHA Champion breeder Bobby D. Cox bred the daughter of last year's leading first-crop sire of winners, One Fabulous Eagle, in Texas from the Corona Cartel mare Bovet. Precedentz has earned $2,823 this year.

Another trainer with multiple qualifiers was Serigo Canales, who got 9th fastest qualifier I Believe In Rose, a daughter of multiple stakes sire Fast Prize Cartel, and 10th fastest qualifier, Bnb Lighting McQueen, a gelding by Coronado Cartel.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from six trial races, will return to Laurel Brown on Saturday, May 29th to vie for the winner's share of the $52,368 SVLAC Futurity purse going 300 yards.
