Thoroughbred Cold Snack Thirty Wins $54,550 Battle Of The Breeds 870 Stakes at Lone Star Park

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—DECEMBER 3, 2022—Bouncing off a third-place effort in the November 11th trials, 8-year-old Thoroughbred Cold Snack Thirty saved ground then split foes down he stretch on his way to a 1-1/2 length victory in the $54,550 Battle Of The Breeds 870 Stakes at Lone Star Park Saturday night.

Under jockey Ernesto Valdez-Jimenez, Cold Snack Thirty stopped the clock in :46.465 seconds to pick up the winner's purse valued at $25,457.  Owned-and-trained by Mark Hibdon, Cold Snack Thirty got his first win in three starts against mixed company.

The Florida-bred son Backtalk has won 10 times in Thoroughbred company to earn $107,036. Lynn Jones bred the gelding from the Rockport Harbor mare Passeporta.

Quarter Horse Cjs Rockhard N Ready bounced between horses early and was four wide off the turn to finish second and earn $10,910.

The multiple stakes-placed son of Rock Solid Jess races for owners Robert and Jody Norris and is conditioned by trainer Kie Mushinski. Luis Vivanco rode the Rockin J Running Horses Texas bred out of Sultry Miss by The Signature.

The 9-year-old has earned $163,556 in 66 career starts.

Another Thoroughbred, Detective Bernardo was a neck back to earn $6,818 for third. Erick Garcia-Alfaro rode the 4-year-old son of Under Caution for owner-trainer Javier Ruiz Ortiz. George Schmitt and Mary Clare Schmitt bred the colt in California from the Lord Carson mare Sharoana. He has earned more than $20,000 in 11 starts.

Beta Capo Song, El Bee Dee and Slp Mighty High completed the field. Gone Paradise and Jb Speedy Gonzales were scratched.
