Southwesterly Best in AQRA Turf Paradise Open Quarter Horse Futurity Consolation

PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 8, 2022—In the $15,000 AQRA-Turf Paradise Futurity Consolation (not black type) at Turf Paradise this afternoon Southwesterly was a neck winner over Counter Attack.

Bumped at the start under jockey Martin Osuna, Southwesterly drifted out while completing the 350 yards in :17.843 seconds, a 92 speed index.  John Allred conditions the stakes winning daughter of leading sire Favorite Cartel for owners Scott McDaniel and Justin Hasting. The gray filly was a $37,000 purchase at the 2021 Los Alamitos Equine Sale.

Bred in California by Steve Burns, DVM, from the Separatist mare Separate Tac, Southwesterly won the John Deere Arizona Downs Juvenile Challenge in July. She has won three of four career starts and earned $55,351.

Counter Attack, under jockey Raul Valenzuela earned $2,850 for finishing second. Heraclio Botello trains the Fly Thru The Fire colt for owner Marco Antonio Hernandez. Also bred in Californa by Steve Burns, DVM, Counter Attack is out of the Corona Cartel mare Attack The Cartel.

Tig, an Oklahoma-bred son of Valiant Hero, finished another neck back in the blanket finish to earn $1,425 for third. Winless in four starts, the sorrel gelding races for owner Jorge Herrera Ramos and is conditioned by trainer Jesus Olivas-Valenzuela.  Jockey Albert Medrano had the riding call on Paris Wixon bred 2-year-old out of Cara Cara by Teller Cartel.

Rush Royalty, Vs Mr Pilotos, Nineteen Crimes, Trace Me A Safari, Flagstaff, The Springs and Steel Blood completed the field. Tinee Bubbles was scratched.
