Apollitical Jess, Favorite Cartel Lead Sires' Lists for 2019

DALLAS, TX—JANUARY 2, 2020—For the second consecutive year world champion Apollitical Jess has broken the single-season sire earnings record. Last year the son of #3 all-time leading sire Mr Jess Perry annihilated all-time leading sire First Down Dash's 12-year-old single season record in October 2018.

Last month Apollitical Jess broke his own single season record and repeats as the 2019 Leading Sires of Money Earners with 119 winners, 21 stakes winners and $8,152,810. Mr Jess Jenkins, Apollitical Jess' second All American Futurity(G1) winner, was his leading money earner with $1,576,180.

Apollitical Jess tied with Favorite Cartel for the #1 sire of Graded Stakes winners, each horse had 10, however Apollitical Jess led in graded wins with 17. His average earnings per starter in 2019 was $34,299.

Favorite Cartel capped off a banner-year taking the #1 Leading 2-Year-Old Sire of Money Earners title (see below) as well as finishing second as the overall 2019 Leading Sire of Money Earners with 149 winners earning $7,616,234. He led all sire's in stakes winners with 28 and stakes wins 35. His leading money earner Cartel Jess Rockin won the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and earned $840,640.

Champion and multiple champion sire First Moonflash took the #3 2019 Leading Sire of Money Earners spot with 97 winners, 11 stakes winners and $3,596,343. His champion daughter Flash And Roll won the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby and ended the year as his top money earner with $496,964.

Back-to-back World Champion sire FDD Dynasty comes in at #4 in 2019 with 97 winners, 12 stakes winners and earning totaling $3,131,874. Multiple stakes winner Danjer was his leading money earner with $315,117.

Rounding out the Leading Sires of Money Earners at #5 was the New Mexico-based sire Big Daddy Cartel, who in only four crops to race had 86 winners, 6 stakes winners and $2,810,247 earnings for 2019. His top money earner was the restricted Grade 2 winning 2-year-old filly Honky Tonk Daddy who picked up $225,280.

Leading 2-Year-Old Sires of Money Earners

Favorite Cartel had one of the best two-year-old sire years in Quarter Horse racing history to garner the #1 spot of Leading 2-year-Old Sire of Money earners. He got 77 2-year-old winners, 13 stakes winners with earnings of $5,297,660 in 2019. The aforementioned Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) winner Cartel Jess Rockin was the leading money earner.

However, he also had Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity winner Flokie, who banked $704,253 and Golden State Million Futurity(G1) winner Runforyourlife who earned $583,153 with five wins.

World champion Apollitical Jess took the #2 Leading Sires of 2-Year-Old Money Earners for 2019 with 41 winners, 2 stakes winners earning $3,530,266. All American Futurity(G1) and Southwest Juvenile Championship(G2) winner Mr Jess Jenkins was his leading earner and 2-year-old earner with $1,576,180.

Leading first-crop sire (see below) Hes Relentless snagged the #3 overall 2-year-old sire spot with 38 winners, 11 stakes winners and earnings of $2,123,119. Grade 1-placed Determined Winner ($338,945) finishing third in the $3.5 million All American Futurity to become the sire's top money earner.

Another first-crop sire, champion Apollitical Blood by Apollitical Jess, came in at #4 with 37 winners, 3 stakes winners and earnings of $1,686,094. His first crop was led by the multiple graded winner Trump My Record with $791,153 in earnings.

Rounding out the Top Five 2-Year-Old Sires of Money Earners is Freighttrain B, a son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon. The multiple stakes sire had 47 2-year-old winners in 2019, 3 stakes winners and earnings of $1,640,402. No Freight, runner-up in the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1) was his chief money earner with $256,120.

Leading First-Crop Sires of Money Earners

2019 was an astonishing year for first-crop sires in general, with nine stallions getting 26 stakes winners, 3 stallions breaking the $1 million mark and 1 breaking the $2 million mark.

Champion Hes Relentless had one of the most impressive first-crop years of any Quarter Horse racing sire in recent history to earn the Leading First-Crop Sire of Money Earners title.

Hes Relentless, a son of champion and champion sire One Famous Eagle, carried the bulk of the load in 2019 getting 11 stakes winners (38 winners from 75 starters) in his first crop, earning $2,123,199 with average earnings per starter of $28,308.

His top money earner was the aforementioned Grade 1 placed Determined One ($338,945). Hes Relentless had 15 stakes wins and also sired TQHA Sale Futurity(RG2) winner Relentless Dynasty ($247,256) and Oklahoma Futurity(G2) winner EC Revenge ($200,164). His average earnings per starter hit $28,292.

Champion Apollitical Blood pushed Hes Relentless all season to get the #2 Leading First-Crop Sire of Money Earners spot with 37 winners and earnings of $1,686,094. His 3 stakes winners included the three-time graded stakes winner Trump My Record ($791,153) who won the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity, Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity and Grade 3 Harrah's Futurity.

The third-champion on the Leading First-Crop Sire of Money Earners for 2019 is Kiss My Hocks who earned the #3 spot with 31 winners and earnings of $1,384,470. His top money earner Lil Miss Sashay ($286,200) was fourth in the Grade 1 All American Futurity. He had three stakes winners including Evangeline Downs Futurity winner Kiss My Whuut ($156,885).

Paint Me Perry, a Grade 2 winning son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon, jumped up the First-Crop list in December, when his Mardi Gras Paint ($464,125) won the $1 million LQHBA Million Futurity(RG1) at Evangeline Downs, to take the #4 spot with total sire earnings of $648,128. From a very limited number of only 16 starters he got nine winners and has 14% black type.

Seperate Interest, a Grade 3 winning full brother to champion Inseperable, rounded out the top-five Leading First Crop Sires of Money Earners with 18 winners earning $436,664. Sass Go Blue winner of the Grade 2 PCQHRA Futurity led his three stakes winners with earnings of $156,476.

Leading Second-Crop Sires of Money Earners

The top two Leading Second-Crop Sires of Money Earners Coronado Cartel and Five Bar Cartel, both sons of leading sire Corona Cartel, swapped places in 2019 after finishing 1-2 First-Crop sires in 2018.

Coronado Cartel got 53 winners and 6 stakes winners in 2019 to take the #1 Leading Second-Crop Sire of Money Earners title with $1,339,908. His leading money earner was the 2-year-old filly Southard Queen ($122,372) who had three wins that included the Grade 3 Valley Junction Futurity at Prairie Meadows.

Close on his heels, Champion Five Bar Cartel finished the year in the #2 slot with 43 winners, four stakes winners and earnings of $1,313,298. His top money earner Five Bar Stoli ($196,339) was second in the Grade 1 Ruidoso QH Derby.

A couple of new comers to the Second-Crop Sire Top Five list this season, also sons of Corona Cartel, landed the #3 and #4 spots respectively.

Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity winner Im A Fancy Pyc got 17 winners from 30 starters in 2019 to earn the #3 Leading Second-Crop Sire of Money Earners title with $551,691. His top money earner Jay Number 7 ($185,031) won the AQHA John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) and Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge.

Majestic Cartel, an unraced brother to the aforementioned champion Five Bar Cartel, earned the #4 spot with only 18 starters. The $180,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate got 10 winners and banked $244,561. West Texas Derby(G3) winner New News ($142,631) was Majestic Cartel's leading money earner.

Dash Master Jess. Fourth leading first-crop sire in 2018, the son of Mr Jess Perry has 11 winners from 36 starters who earned $241,179 in 2019. His top money earner Jess Master Angel ($57,010) won the TQHA Sires' Cup Derby at Retama Park.

Leading Third-Crop Sires of Money Earners

Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity winner Lota Pyc landed the Leading Third-Crop Sire of Money Earners title for 2019 with 31 winners and 1 stakes winner with earnings of $850,579. The son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon's leading money earner Lota Shakin Goin On ($157,889) was second in the RG1 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity.

Champion Hez Our Secret, by all-time leading sire First Down Dash, landed the #2 Third-Crop Leading Sire spot off 26 winners of $680,797. He had one stakes winner, Perrys Secret ($272,293) who won the Grade 2 West Texas Futurity.

Multiple stakes winner Fast Prize Jordan, another son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon, secured the #3 slot with 19 winners, 1 stakes winner and earnings of $482,920. Hooked On Jordan ($91,135), winner of the Blue River Derby, was his leading money earner in 2019.

Second Painted Sign, also a son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon, had 20 winners and $326,227 to get the #4 Third-Crop sire spot. Bubba Bad ($28,330) was his leading money earner.

Last year's leading Second-Crop sire Jess Lips, by Mr Jess Perry, rounded out the Third-Crop Sire list with 15 winners and earnings of $277,992 in 2019. Tres Jazz was his leading money earner off $58,289.

Leading Broodmare Sires of Money Earners

Mr Jess Perry led all broodmare sires in to earn the Leading Broodmare Sire of Money Earners title for 2019. The multiple champion broodmare sire's daughters got 257 winners and 32 stakes winners in 2019 while banking $8,753,278.

Eysa Jess Jumpn ($461,767 in 2019), out of Jess Jumpn, was his leading money earner in 2019 off a 9-for9 undefeated year that included wins in the Dash For Cash Derby(G2), Sam Houston Derby(G3),Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby(RG3), LQHBA Breeders Derby and Billy Montgomery Stakes.

Legendary Corona Cartel was close behind in #2 with daughters who produced 243 winners, 26 stakes winners and earnings of $8,147,893. Golden State Million Futurity(G1) winner Runforyourlife ($583,153), out of Remember Me Rose, was the leading money earner.

Feature Mr Jess, a son of Mr Jess Perry, held sway at #3 off daughters who got 95 winners, 9 stakes winners and earnings of $4,310,949. Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) winner Cartel Jess Rockin ($840,640), out of Feature Jess Rockin, and Los Alamitos Super Derby(G1) winner Flash And Roll ($496,964), out of Stylish Jess Br, was his top two earners for 2019.

The perennial all-time leading sire First Down Dash landed the #4 slot with his daughters producing 154 winners, 11 stakes winners and earners of $3,748,260. Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Uncle D ($682,965), out of Little Surfer, was his leading earner.

Rounding out the top five Leading Broodmare Sires of Money Earners for 2019 was Tres Seis who had daughters produce 102 winners, 15 stakes winners and earners of $3,689,376. Multiple stakes winner Apollitical Pence ($347,951), out of Send City, was the chief money earner in 2019.

Leading Broodmare Sires of 2-Year-Old Money Earners

Mr Jess Perry was also the #1 Leading Broodmare Sire of 2-Year-Old Money Earners in 2019 with daughters getting 98 winners, 9 stakes winners and earnings of $4,150,268. Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner Fernweh ($424,800), out of Jess A Lil Bit More, was the leading earner.

Corona Cartel daughters got 102 winners, 8 stakes winners and earnings of $3,907,481 to propel him to the #2 Two-Year-Old Broodmare Sire spot in 2019. Golden State Million Futurity(G1) winner Runforyourlife ($583,153), out of Remember Me Rose, was the leading money earner.

Pyc Paint Your Wagon landed the #3 Leading Two-Year-Old Broodmare Sire of Money Earners title from 39 winners in only 89 starters, 5 stakes winners and earnings of $2,098,301. Multiple graded winner Trump My Record, out of Breck N Records, with $791,153 was the chief money earner in 2019.

First Down Dash landed the #4 spot with 61 wins, 3 stakes wins and earnings of $1,974,794. Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Uncle D ($682,965), out of Little Surfer, was his leading earner.

Rounding out the Top Five Leading Broodmare Sires of 2-Year-Old Money Earners is Dashing Cleat, who had 1 winner from seven starters. That one winner Mr Jess Jenkins, out of Fetching Image, attributed $1,576,180 to the Dashing Cleat's daughters total earnings of $1,580,326. Mr Jess Jenkins won the Grade 1 All American Futurity and the Grade 2 Southwest Juvenile Championship.
